Extending A Single Entry Non-imm. Visa

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have a single entry 90 day non-immigrant visa, which I would like to extend. I have been told that I can extend it up to 3 times, by going to a border town and extending it on the Thai side (i.e. without crossing the border out of Thailand). Is this indeed possible?

If so, what else do I need to know, if anything, about doing this successfully? Is there a risk of being denied the extention, and if so what can I do to minimize this risk?

If it is not possible to extend my visa without crossing a border, what are my options if I wish to spend a year in Thailand?

Thank you very much,

Jacob

You can not extend such a visa more than 7 days (unless you have specific qualifications such as wife/child).

You can visit Vientiane to obtain a 2 entry tourist visa which, with extensions, could cover up to almost six months. Then you could do it again.

Just crossing border and return only gets you 15 days so staying a year would involved a lot of travel.

You have been given some completly incorrect information.

The only extension you can possibly get is a 7 day extension at immigration.

Unless you can extend it for some valid reason for 1 year. IE: employment, marriage, retirement and etc.
