I wonder if anyone has had the experience of applying for a Tourist Visa from the Royal Thai Embassy in Hanoi.

Is an outbound (out of Thailand) air ticket required ? How much is required to process the TR ?

Hope fellow members can share information as I intend to take a break from the usual Vientiane.

We went there a couple of years ago - Not very friendly and you'll need to get a visa for Vietnam (cost about 3000 baht).

It's okay because I come from a member of the ASEAN, so I presume it's free.

I just need to know what other special documents I might need, and the time frame involved.

I doubt they will bother to reply my email.

There is no agreement for all ASEAN countries concerning visa fees or the amount of time you get on entry or the number of days you get with a tourist visa. It is done upon an agreement between each country.

Since the MFA website is down I can't answer your comment about the fee's. But if memory serves me correct Vietnam and Thailand do not an have an agreement for fees so you have to pay the normal of 1000 baht per entry.

The embassy has a website but it has almost no information on it. But since it runs on the same server as the MFA I suspect it is also down this morning.

You can try http://www.thaiembassy.org/ and click on Hanoi and go to their website when this website is up and running (it also must be on the same server).

You can try an email. I have had good luck with other consulates/embassies when I emailed them with a question. But it also might not be working this morning.

not sure about hanoi but i got my tourist visa in ho chi minh. they require you to show a confirmed ticket from vietnam to thailand. if you show an overland bus thicket then they will ask for a valid credit card or 500 dollars cash. i assume hanoi would be the same. the visas are free until 5 june

My recent several emails to the Thai Embassy in Vientiane were answered promptly.

So suggest it is worth trying with Hanoi.

Now can anyone tell me which is the nearest hotel near the Thai Embassy ?

There is a small hotel right accross from the Embassy - but the lady behind the counter was very rude ($35.00/night). If I were you I would rather stay in the Old Town (near or around Hoa khiem Lake) - all within walking distance to restaurants, cafes and shops, things to see, things to do. Walking around the lake can be quite interesting - it's only a 15 minutes taxi ride from the Old Town to the Thai Embassy. Most of the small BBs/Hotels here charge anywhere from $10 - $25/night including breakfast - no need to make reservation, just walk in.

good luck
