Internet Explorer 8 Now On Automatic Updates

Featured Replies

I haven't downloaded it yet.

I didn't appreciate the first line of the message:

"Internet Explorer 8 is the latest version of the familiar Web browser that you are most comfortable using."

I can assure them that IE is NOT the browser I am most comfortable using.

If you had windows installed through a computer shop in Thailand chances are that it was not the original stuff. If this is the case I suggest you don't update.

Only customers who bought the genuine Windows will get their free update from Microsoft. But, having said this, I am no expert. So do correct me if I am wrong!

I got the laptop at DataIO, Bangkok - all genuine stuff, passes WGA tests etc. It was the presumptuous message from M$ that I didn't like, as if they know which browser I'm "most comfortable using"! What a load of tosh! :)

Whenever I use IE, it's like someone has put handcuffs and a blindfold on me - can't find anything, don't know where anything is, can't do what I usually do.

Unfortunately some web sites insist on it.

As far as I know there is no WGA on Explorer 7 as it was removed to gain more market share including the pirated copies of Windows.

No sure if the have added WGA on Explorer 8 or maybe it causes the PC to try and try connect to MS update before installation and that could have a WGA test.

I read on a few tech sites IE 8 did not have a WGA test but have not tried it myself yet.

I'm not fan of IE either. Unfortunately, one of the websites I work on requires me to use IE. Anyway, IE8 is horrible. Different websites won't load correctly, pages very slow loading, and my website looks like a disaster zone in IE8. Using and IE7 emulator now.

May I briefly hijack this thread?

A friend has a Sony Vaio laptop, somehow "Crawler" search toolbar has got into the browser (Firefox). I tried to uninstall it but no luck, during the process a few boxes in Russian, or Czek, or some other language come up, they look like they are asking for a "yes" or "no" for "odinstalace".

I googled a little and saw among other things a suggestion to get into the registry to fix it, but that always makes me a little nervous.

Suggestions? (Or I could start another thread, but I hate to waste space!)

Thanks!

My, My My... Are you saying that Firefox is INSECURE... Impossible.

More like someone was searching for cracked software and now has a dirty machine. Spend some time and money and get it cleaned up. Any cyrillic or eastern Euro lingo pop-ups would give me worries.
