...Including their own government.

And you should change "most people" to "most other people," because as far as I recall at the last legitimate elections held in this country the red-shirts won with convincing majorities. So that makes "most other people" a "minority of the country that also happens to have the support of the wealthy elite and the conditional support of the military."

But then I suppose that doesn't quite have the same ring to it...

It's simply amazing that red's keep telling themselves they had a 'convincing majority' when they received roughly 35% of the vote, and anti red parties received over 60%. And the red's got completely decimated in recent by election.

The 60% was divided between how many other parties, lets get the figures correct.

Democrat Party voiced disagreement with the UDD gathering on May 10

BANGKOK, 5 May 2009 (NNT)- Democrat Party disagreed with the anti-government rally on May 10 claiming the protesters would present distorted information about the riot during Songkran period to the people

Personal Spokesperson to the Democrat Party Leader Thepthai Senpong said the planned gathering of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship at Wat Phai Khiao on May 10 was to incite people with the distorted information by alleging that the government resorted to violence in the crowd dispersal on April 13 and delusively set the scene of the attack against the Prime Minister’s vehicle at the Ministry of Interior.

Mr. Thepthai confirmed that it was not a fake and the Prime Minister was actually in that car. Thus, he commented that the planned rally of UDD was not suitable as the information reported by the media was genuine facts.

Concerning the report that some Democrat MPs voiced inconveniences with former Chart Thai Party Leader Banharn Silpa-archa’ s pushing the Government to revise Article 237 of the Constitution, Mr. Thepthai said he had not yet spotted such inconveniences of his Democrat fellows.

I bet the recent by election was held in a yellow shirt stronghold, try one in the north I'm pretty sure figures would be reversed.

Military ready to take charge of UDD rally tomorrow if requested to help

BANGKOK, 9 May 2009 (NNT) – The Army Chief prepares a task force to secure the rally situation if the army is requested, while admitting he is weary to find that several people do not understand the army’s duty.

The Commander - in - Chief of the Royal Thai Army General Anupong Paojinda said that the army had not been asked to reinforce the police at tomorrow rally of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), but the military force had been prepared in order to help in case of being requested, because the current situation was still under the police control.

He admitted that he was weary as several people did not understand the military’s role and was criticized as having double standard. He affirmed that all missions were operated as the government’s command without double standard. He was also concerned about the situation in the country in the same manner as the general public and wished for peace in the country.

The Army Chief emphatically denied the accusation by the Phua Thai Party on the attack of the Prime Minister’s car as staged by the army as baseless and untrue. He meanwhile, refused to comment on the case of assassination attempt on Mr. Sondhi Limthongkul's life.

I think JT's comments are a little rich, given that he himself starts stale polls on the same topic over and over again every other day. Again a perfect case of better start polls for yourself because nobody else cares.

And besides, having a rally is EXACTLY that: talking amongst yourselves. You want to deny them that right too? Already their radio stations were taken away illegally, you now want to deny them the right of assembly? Looking at the newspaper article the MILITARY already made intimidating noises.

weekly polls.....It is the only way some can tell us their version of the *truth* :):D So they make polls where 30 or so unqualified to vote in TL voters can decide for 70 million qualified to vote in TL voters. They then rejoice in their *truth* winning :D:D

Then they wait for the full moon & do a little dance.

How refreshing that there are some on this forum that is now seeing the deeper side of things regarding the reds and are actually seeing and understanding their plight against the elite's brainwashing of the poor...unfortunately not all are yet aware...but the awakening is there....

New flash. Thaksin vs. Abhisit TODAY. Abhisit would win.

Very safe in saying that as you know it's never going to happen.

Not so fast. Thaksin proxy the SAME as Thaksin. Same result.

Wakie, wakie, the results were that 2 prime-ministers were proxies from Thaksin and they were there because they democratically won!!!!

but ofcourse this doesn't count so they were overthrown

Yeah, so true. I guess the key witness in that case against Yongyuth (which led to the dissovling of PPP) who got his life threatend by "good-hearted democracy-loving" people was some bribed actor too then. And all the evidence was all planted too. There really never was a case of electoral fraud against PPP. The PPP were all clean people, unlike Abhisit and the Dems.

BANGKOK, 10 May 2009 (NNT) - Police plans to record speeches of core-leaders of the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatoship (UDD) during the Bangkok rally Sunday evening, according to news report.

Metropolitan Police Division 2 Commander Pol Maj Gen Saroj Promcharoen states that police officers will be assigned to record the statements delivered by UDD leaders, especially the ones who remain on bail in order to consider whether they will violate the law during the mass rally at the Phai Khiew Temple.

First Army Region Commander Lieutenant General Kanit Sapitak says the police has not asked for the military to step up security at the rally site while the Army has closely monitored the situation and no irregularities have been reported so far.

The by-election was across a wholeslew of provinces mostly central and Isaan but with Lamphun too. The government did better than expected and won most of the seats including Lamphun iirc which last time I checked was in the North.

Thankyou for the Video Clip - looks like a very lot turned out today !!!!

So for every million Thais, how many of them showed up for the "big" red rally? These diehards do NOT represent the majority of Thais.

So basically in your world/mind a rally is an election?

In which case Obama's big rally in Grant Park Chicago had 100,000 turn out.

Better yet his inaguration had maybe 4 million?

Yet the population of America is 304,059,721

Yes thats 304 MIllion

Are you saying then he was........elected by the minority?

I mean he was only represented by a fraction even smaller than the example you gave.

I estimate that there can be seen approx 2,000 - 2,500 people in that clip (Estimating that the crowd is 4-5 times bigger than my university class of 450). I might be wrong, of course, but still, there aren't many.

These are probably the true diehard fans. Probably no 500 baht handouts this time hence the lowered numbers. Remember, even at the peak of the movement last month they didn't get anywhere near the million people mark as they wanted.
