The most dangerous cake recipe!

FIVE MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour

4 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons cocoa

1 egg

3 tablespoons milk

3 tablespoons oil

3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)

a small splash of vanilla extract

1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.

Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high).

The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?

Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

You are going to print this out straight away, aren't you

And just when you think you have seen it all........ I will be sure to let Ferran Adri know about this little bit of molecular gastronomy...

Although if I did own a microwave, I would be compelled to try it....

mmmmmmmmmmmmm

yum yum yum

i wonder if it will work as flour-less cake too?

I love stuff like this! I think I'll do this with my students and call it science. Maybe we'll do it during our heat unit. How does it taste? Thanks for sharing!

I've tried this. It works. If you need a chocolate fix in a hurry it's ok, but I still prefer my one layer cake recipe, I adapted for the microwave, to this as far as taste and texture....takes less than five minutes in the microwave and comes out delicious.

ok - please tell me what i did wrong...

i followed the recipe, wanted to surprise my kids like "look what mama did - a mini-cake"

i olny had to cut down the vanilla, didn´t have any at home (you can guess: i never bake, except muffins - and even they turn out real funny here in thailand ;(

the cake looked ok to me, my kids faces were worth a pic "YOU did this? what is this supposed to be?"

after a few minutes debating who has to try first (yes, who HAS to try...poor me ;O) the younger took a tiiiny bite.

my enthusiastic "how does it taste?" was answered with "like papermaché with lots of sugar". the older one didn´t even taste after this comment on my gourmet cake...

ok. i must have done something wrong :)) i do hope your cakes turn out better :D))

Please do share, beachbunny. I'm very curious having never heard of microwave cake before reading this thread.

this has always been my backup quick yummy dessert for company......friends can't believe I made it in the microwave.

This is the recipe from my Homesteading cook book I got for my wedding. You'll see my microwave directions about 2/3 down the recipe.

Quick one-bowl cocoa cake:

Two Layers:

6 T. cocoa

2 C flour

1 ½ C sugar

1 tsp. soda

1 tsp baking powder

1/8 tsp salt

2 eggs

¾ C butter, melted

1 cup cold water

One Layer:

3 T. Cocoa

3/4 C. sugar

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/16 tsp salt (pinch)

2 eggs

1/4 C plus 2 T. butter, melted

1/2 C. cold water.....I use right from the fridge.

Standard instructions for two layers:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. (176 C), a moderate ove. Sift first six ingredients into mixing bowl. Add the rest all at once. (I melt the butter in the microwave) Beat well with whisk. Bake in two greased and floured 8 inch layer pans for 40 minutes. Use Chocolate Butter Frosting or Mocha Icing between layers and on top.

Microwave directions for one layer.

I use a round glass pan. You could probably use a square

shallow corning ware dish, or something similar. Butter and flour the pan same as for

baking in a regular oven. You’ll notice for the microwave one layer recipe you still have to use two eggs, or it just doesn’t come out right.

Sometimes I mix the first six ingrdts. the night before and cover with plastic wrap. The next morning I add the wet ingredients and bake in the microwave.

If you have a 1300-1500 watt lmicrowave and can set by percentages….cook at 70 % for 5 minutes and on high for 1 to 4 minutes depending on your microwave.

For my microwave in Thailand I use 650 watts for 4-5 minutes and 800 watts for 1-2 minutes. The first time you just have to stand there and keep and eye on it until you know how your microwave cooks. Check with toothpick for doneness…you don’t want to overcook it either.

Chocolate Butter Cream Frosting:

2 T. butter

1 cup confectioners sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla , or 1/4 tsp kahlua and 1/4 tsp vanilla, or you could use coffee extract.

1 sq. unsweetened chocolate melted over boiling water, OR ¼ c. cocoa with a little extra softened butter. (I use cocoa)

Cream butter and sugar well, add the flavoring and a few drops of milk cream, or liqueur if consistency is not creamy. This is enough for one layer.

Thanks for that BeachBunny :D

I never intended this to turn into a microwave-cake thread, but why not?

Anyone got any microwave-cakes NOT based on chocolate??

EDIT Found this, a different kind of microwave sponge :)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8VPPwDEroQ

Any homemade cake recipe is adaptable, doesn't matter what flavor you like. I just prefer chocolate. The only thing is when you do a one layer cake for the microwave you need to use the same amount of eggs for a one layer in the microwave as for a two layer you bake in the oven.

I have a lemon pudding cake recipe that is my next one to try in the microwave. Even though my oven is vented to the outside it still warms the kitchen up a bit, so I prefer the microwave....plus it's Sooooooooooo fast.

Daren, i have another experiment for you.

Take two cups of water (tap or bottled). Leave one glass alone. For the other, microwave it until it boils. Let it cool to room temperature.

Then get two identical potted plants.

Pour as glass of normal water into plant A

Pour the microwaved water into plant B

Do this for a few days. One a day.

Not about cakes per say, but makes one think.
