Dear Sirs,

With reference to your COUNTRY ADVICE THAILAND, there appears to be some advice that is factually incorrect. I quote:

"The only legal way of obtaining a new visa is from an Immigration Officer at a point of entry into Thailand."

My understanding is that visas are NOT available from "a point of entry", rather they are available at a Thai consulate/embassy only. Entry permits, not visas, are available at points of entry. To reinforce this message it may be useful to include a note that visa agents etc. are offering an illegal service that can result in a sentence of 1 - 10 years in prison. I'm sure this would put off those ill-informed or naive enough to consider using such a service.

I would be most grateful if you could  review this advice and perhaps even post a comment on the web site http://forum.thaivisa.com (http://www.thai.visa.com). There has been considerable discussion of this and related topics in recent weeks and I'm sure your informed advice would be welcomed.

Yours sincerely,

Brian

it will be interesting to see how long it takes, and how relevant the reply is.
Well done Brian...see what it brings. The tale is perpetuated on the Brit Embassy Bkk site too. Give credit where credit is due, they shagged up the advice to traveller's in a big way.
Brian, yes nice work. I'd be surprised if the Ambassador or relevant official wasn't working on a diplomatic solution right now, as I'm pretty sure that this is the most pressing business at the embassy these days. A deluge of new passport requests and the man hours involved in dealing with the detainees must be stretching their staff to the very limits. This situation must also be stretching the manpower of the immigration dept. and, as i've mentioned in other posts, it seems pretty clear that the only advantage to the Thai government of continuing on this track without a solution designed to tackle the purveyors rather than the participants is purely financial.
