I see the rules are changed: You can get a retirement visa now in your own country.

In stead of first getting a Non Imm O for 3 months in your own country and than getting the Non Imm O-A in Thailand.

I will try this, but I need to submit a "personal data form"

Any idea what this means and where I can get that form?

You cannot get a Non-Immigrant "O-A" retirement visa in Thailand, only your home country. Nothing has changed. The Personal Data Form is available for download from most Thai Embassy or Consulate websites, Washington, DC or Los Angeles, CA for example.

You can not get a visa within Thailand, you can get an extension for one year based on retirement if you qulify under the follwing rules:

- are 50 years or older

and have

- an income of 65,000 baht a month

OR

- an amount of 800,000 baht or more in a Thai bankaccount

OR

- have a combination of income and money in a Thai bank account totaling at least 800,000 baht.

I just looked into my cystal ball and it tells me you will applying for your non-oa in the Netherlands.

I suggest you contact the Thai Embassy there to get the form.

Link to website: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/1326.php?depid=227

There is abosolutly no info on the website but it does have contact info on the home page. I think an email would be best so they can send you all the correct forms. I could give you one from another embassy but it might not be the same form that they use.

Thank you for the answers.

I learned last year I had to get a Non Imm O in Holland and that ask in Thailand for a Retirement O-A extension.

But I understand now I am wrong. Thai rules are almost as difficult as Dutch rules...

Indeed, mr. ubonjoe/chrystal ball, I am Dutch. I wrote some e-mails to the Thai Embassy in the Netherlands, but they prefer not to answer any e-mail. (why am I not surprised?); but I think I have a better link I will try: thaiconsulate-amsterdam.org/

The consulate is much more helpful, but can not issue a O-A visa, only a non-o visa. A non-o visa is enough to get yearly extensions in Thailand if you qualify, see my earlier post. An O-A will last longer before you will have to get an extension from immigraiton, but also has more requirements. (police check and health check).

As to sending emails, you are wiser to call the Embassy. They do not seem to be unfriendly, but language is a barrier, especialy when they have to write.

The confusion comes from people that incorrectly use the OA term when they refer to a retirement extension. The OA is a special non immigrant visa for retirement that gives you a 1 year permit to stay. As said it can only be issued your home country at an embassy or an official Thai consulate in most cases.

Some embassies are not very helpfull. The consulate in Amsterdam does not mention a non-oa on its website and will not issue it.

You should try calling the embassy to see if you can get any help that way. If not then you may have to go there and inquire about applying the non-oa and all the forms needed.

Otherwise get a non-o from the consulate in Amsterday and apply for your extension here witin the last 30 days of your entry.
