Best Isp In Thailand For Wireless Internet Usage

Featured Replies

I want to get a wireless modem in Thailand and wondering what ISP is the best for coverage, I'll be in Nakhon Ratchasima for the first 2 weeks before heading to Pattaya and wondering if the costs is good along with the wireless connection and its usage, anyone recommend me any? in terms of costs for the Modem and usage, I want one that its just prepaid and not a contract, I want to stay connected with my friends back home when I'm away, much help appreciated :)

You mention you want buy a modem.

After reading your post I assume you are not coming to Thailand with a notebook in tow?

Can you provide more information what your actual plans are.

Its easier then to give some advise

thx

I'll be bringing with me a laptop, sorry i forgot to mention that lol

I think your only option is going with GPRS/Edge, on a pre paid simcard. It's virtually the only pre-paid option. You just need an Edge capable mobile phone to connect, or alternatively buy a USB modem, between 2500 and 6000 Baht.

Expect speeds between 80 and 220 kbps depending on location and network load. Good for surfing and e-mailing, not good for VOIP, big downloads/uploads and video streaming. Audio streaming will work OK most of the time.

Relatively cheap at 1000 Baht/month unlimited access (no data cap either). Or if usage is less you can get hourly packages, e.g. 50 hours for 200 something Baht.

Supplement with wifi access wherever available.

Faster is likely available in Khorat, namely CAT CDMA, but only available with a contract. And it wouldn't work in Pattaya!

In Pattaya CDMA is supplied by Hutch, also a contract, or without contract but they then require you to sign up for a year (total approx. 17,000 Baht including the modem).

So I have to use a mobile phone service to use/connect the internet?

If you want to be online while traveling and in the privacy of your room, yes.

You can also look for accomodation where internet is available in the rooms. A fair amount of hotels, also cheaper ones offer this. Getting adsl or something is basically only available for residents...
