Paying 2 Days Overstay Vs. Getting Extension?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My 60 day tourist visa expires on the 25th but I cannot leave then due to time constraints until the 27th. (I have a confirmed ticket for that date)

Is it better to go to an Immigration Office and pay for a visa extension (just for 2 extra days?) or is it "acceptable" to pay the penalty at the Airport?

I certainly don't want to have any "black marks" put into my Passport, and I do not like breaking the Law but for 2 days I thought somebody would have the best answer and if a sincere apology at the Immigration Counter (plus fees) would be considered sufficient to let me pass (with a warning, perhaps?)

Appreciate any advice or ideas from informed parties.

HB

You will have an overstay stamp in your passport if you overstay. It means nothing currently in Thailand but some other countries could take notice. A 7 day extension of stay will cost 1,900 baht and a photo so about 900 baht more expensive in all.

I was under the impression that the first days overstay was Free So 500 Baht To Pay.

Well I do not like the idea of a permanent stamp in the Passport..is this a new policy, as I have never heard of that before--even for 2 days?

Is it always done like this, or is it stamped in upon the discretion of the Officer..?

And I see no reason for Immigration to "give a free day" of overstay, but if so then the price is THB 500, as that is the price per day of overstay I assume?

Thanks again,

HB

They don't deduct the free day if you go over the 24 hour grace period.

Unless you have already used it you will get a 30 day extension.

The overstay stmp is a little blue stamp that looks a lot like all the others and is in Thai. They even put a stamp in your passport for the 24 hour grace period overstay.

If you are only one day overstay they do not normally change you at airport - but you still owe for each day and if more than one you will have to pay it.

Overstay 1,000 Baht plus stamp in passport.

Extension 1,900 Baht and no stamp in passport.

Up to you.

As far as I remember:

First Day, No Charge

Second day, 1000 baht

Each subsequent day an additional 500 baht

Maximum 20,000 (I am not as certain of this figure - anyone know the max?)
