Garmin Gps Nüvi 215w Software

Featured Replies

Hello everyone !

After reading lots of info of this forum I finally have my very own request :D:)

I just purchased a garmin nüvi GPS (215w) this Week End, in the Canon shop in MBK.

It is part of the fotofile group and as an amateur photographer I know they are usually reliable.

But in the package, along with the warranty card and the usuall charger and other acceossries, I found only one CD on which I found the thai and english maps.... but no software...

I don't know but I was expecting some way of managing my maps/trips/Waypoints from my computer :s

Is that normal ? A friend of mine owning another garmin GPS (trekking version) told me the thai maps guys (ESRI) manage to somehow produce a map which is not compatible with the very own software/hardware that they are selling (the version before this latest one does not work with their mapsource soft).... so did they stop shipping the software to "hide" that or it is just that I am unlucky and my package is not complete ?

Did someone else buy this one to compare ?

Thanks !

I purchased mine in the UK it had built in UK map but I had to buy a sd card for Thailand map if that helps!

The thai map is and was never mapsource compatible.Keep in mind that it mapsource files are a completely different format as the file you put on your unit.

Reason herefore I think is that mapsource is a garmin application and garmin purchased the thailand map from esri which is a separate company.

However since version 8.1,we are now version 9.0,the map can not any more purchased from garmin.

So if Garmin doesn't have a map of Thailand, what's the best GPS to buy? I had been looking at the 885T for the voice recognition stuff...don't want to have to stop to change things.

The esri thailand map is in my opinion the most detailed map available and can be installed on garmin units but does not have a mapsource version

Can you post a link as to where.

Sorry but totally false..

If you get the pirate gmapsupp.img files installed onto your unit for a few 100 baht then yes, your not getting the mapsource version.. But ESRI do and always have done sold the garmin compatible map, it used to be 12k baht for the map, I understand its now 7500 for the map (last I looked it may have come down again), if purchased outside of a GPS and map bundle, but always be sure if your getting a real licensed map not just a CDR copy if buying a bundle somewhere. A seller is perfectly within thier rights to sell you a garmin hardware only if you dont ask and know what your buying.

The handler application the OP is looking for is mapsource.. You should then install the real licensed map onto your pc, unlock it from garmin, and then using mapsource send the map to your unit.. Mapsource then handles the maps, the waypoints, etc..

Alternatively the maps are all over the net.. You could even google for the 'jetmouse 1.3 keygen' which will unlock any locked mapset.

About a month or so ago the Thai maps went from the 8.x line to the 9.0 line..

Please refrain from comments on matters you don't know anything about!!

Esri or garmin have never ever sold the thailand map mapsource compatible. If you would take the time to take a look at the specifications of the map on the garmin website you would have noticed that they say the following "Maps on microSD/SD cards cannot be copied or viewed on a computer".

I know several people which have purchased the map directly from Esri and none of them have recieved a mapsource version.

Now go back replying that legal bikes have changed to illegal status just by getting older. :)

hallo my englisch is not so good.

we work in Thailand in Thai and German language. We are since 2004 Garmin dealer. - Longer like all different. And we have approx. 800 foreigners as customers.

More like 1000 Garmin of devices went through our hands.

And we sold ESRI map for map SOURCE. The price was before 2 years about 35,000 baht.

So Very Expensiv.

The simplest

Idee for used mapsource whit your thaimap on Nuvi .

Instaliere Worldmap on map SOURCE. Then you can use all TRACKs and Poi on mapsource.

whit your thai Nuvi .

Or use some onather tricky map . like rotweiler

best wisch Anunya.

As I wanted to know I just called Esri thailand (02-2669948) and asked if the Garmin Thailand map is available in Mapsource format.

They confirmed me that the Thailand map for garmin is only available in image format.I asked how I could view it on my computer and they said that it was not possible since they don't provide it in the required format and it is also not possible to order.

Anyway not my concern cos I have the newest version ,and all the previous ones, of the Garmin Thailand map in Mapsource format but I created it myself. :)

I know. Whom you ESRI call get you this information.

It is because of it the product any longer does not offer.

you must hardangularly questions.

Require the coach of the Techniker,

This will explain to you it only the old Versions Thai ESRI map on Mape SOURCE gave.

anyway

A Kompetent Technik Person like you

always can find a solution :)

best greets

As I said already I also have the garmin thai map in mapsource but not bought from garmin or esri either as they officially don't exist.I had to create them myself from the map garmin and esri are selling.

The maps that garmin sells are identical to the ones esri sells and that is only for use on a garmin unit.

Jeez.. The poster above sells the things..

Mapsource versions exist.. You refusing to accept that doesnt change it.

The official Garmin Mapsource MapID for this product (thailand city navigator 8.1) is 57..

Edited by LivinLOS

If Mapsource compatible ESRI maps exist, where can you get them? I have been using the ESRI maps and the Rotweiler maps also. The ESRI map can be cracked and the format changed but the map is NOT legally commercially available.

I have a source for the 8.1 if you want it.. The MAP ID 57 one as per garmins system.. City navigator IIRC.. Might need the JetMouse keygen if its locked I cant remember been a while since I installed it and mapsource not running under linux so I forget..

I dont have a mapsource 9 yet... Of course I do have the gmapsupp.img.

I believe that you have thailand 8.1 in mapsource version as so many people do but you not gonna claim that it is an official esri map do you.

Not so, City Navigator Southeast Asia NT V4.00 is the current Garmin map that covers all of Thailand. It has better road detail than the ESRI map in some places. However, it still will not work with MapSource on a computer.

IO is died on. I have both maps ESRI V8.1& V9.0 & SEA V3 & V4

SEA V3 used ESRI's V8.1 map but SEA V4 uses Teleatlas map.

If you could just join the two together with best of both maps (poi's and roads & road names) you would have a very nice map.

With this being th first real map from TeleAtlas Thailand. I can't wait to see the update.

I have the latest ESRI map and the latest SE Asia map. The maps are indeed different. The ESRI map has many more points of interest. Unfortunately many are outdated and some out of date by several years. The SE Asia map has far fewer points of interest but they are pretty much up to date. Neither map is perfect by any means. Both lack some smaller roads in different areas. One will have the smaller roads and the other will not. The Rotweiler map is based on the ESRI map and is more out of date than the other two. Any of the three maps is usable and far better than a road map. For those of us waiting for perfection, I think we have a long wait ahead of us.
