May 22, 200917 yr TOT gave me this el-cheapo modem with THOMSON ST536 custom firmware on it. It's OK if overly complicated, and I found I can change the user to "admin" using password tot. The problem is, even in admin mode, the DHCP server and modem address are on 192.168.1.1, and I need to get it off that because it conflicts with our VPN. I can create new "DHCP server pools" but I don't see any options on how to actually assign a device to the new pools I create, and the default .1.x scheme cannot be deleted. Does anyone know how to do this? I want my computers to go in a new DHCP pool with a 192.168.4.x address scheme... Similar question for a Zyxel modem I got from CAT in the office. That one has a user/password dialog, and I am apparently entering the wrong combination because I get a status page where I can't change anything. It's a prestige 660H of some sort (newer version, no WiFi). I guess I can always buy a new DSL modem, but the ones I got seem to work pretty well, other than that I can't muck around with them.

May 23, 200917 yr Author Cool, thanks, will try that on the Zyxel. Doesn't help for the SpeedTouch / Thomson because I have the admin settings for that, it seems like on that modem the IP addressing is simply hard-coded. Checked the manual too, no dice. Edited May 23, 200917 yr by nikster
May 23, 200917 yr Author @webfact, was able to log into zyxel - it doesn't display a username thingy, only a pass, but the default 1234 worked, and allowed me to access the "advanced" interface where I was able to change the addressing scheme no problem. Thanks a lot! The SpeedTouch at home seems to be impossible to change even as admin, no idea why. I am guessing they did something to that firmware, unless there's yet another "superuser" besides admin that can do more. Will probably just get a new modem.

Sorry to bring up this old thread, but maybe my answer helps somebody crawling the archive for an answer. Yep, you are right. The TOT admin is only 'superuser', but there is another 'administrator' role. You can easily get full access to TOT's Speedtouch ST536 by using a simple trick: enable remote support and use the provided temporary user to login via your public IP and create a new user with 'Administrator' privileges - voila! Step by step: Login with admin/tot Goto Toolbox/Remote Assistance Take notes of the provided URL (your public IP), username and password and hit the 'Enable Remote Assistance' button. Login to the configuration interface via the provided URL. Goto Toolbox/User Management/Details and create a new user, assign the 'Administrator' role. The default password for the newly created user is the same as the user name Login as this new user via your internal router IP and change the password. The web interface is rather limited, better login via telnet. welo
