Is It Possible To Extend A 90 Day Stay?

Featured Replies

I initially came over on a 60 day visa, I then went to Mukdahan and crossed into Laos. I paid 1550baht for a further 30 day visa.

I now want to stay another 30 days, is this allowed? I am in Amnat Charoen at the moment.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry I do not understand what you now have. There is no such thing as a 30 day Visa.

Without knowing exactly what kind of visa(s) you had it is difficult to say. You can always get a 7 day extension from immigration if you have a ticket out of the country within those 7 days.

I came from the uk with a 60 day visa, decided to stay longer. At the Friendship Bridge Immigration crossing into Laos they said I could only have a 15 day stamp, I explained that I needed a 30 day stay, they stamped my passport back into Thailand with a further 30 day stay but I paid 1550baht for this.

I now want to extend another 30 days.

Thanks.

I don't know how you got a 30 day visa in Laos. Please explain.

Just crossing over and returning will only give you a 15 day visa exempt entry unless you are from a country that has a bilateral agreement with Thailand which would give you 30 days. You can do this as many times as you want.

You could of extended your orignal 60 day entry for 30 days at immigration (1900 baht) instead of leaving.

What you did was illegal.

Your best bet now is to go to Vientienne Laos and apply for a Tourist Visa / Double Entry if you want. They are free of charge at the moment. A Double will give you almost 6 months stay with a border run in the middle and 2 extensions from Immigration.

I explained to customs that I needed 30 days instead of 15 and after paying the money they stamped my passport with a 30 day stamp. I reckon it will be too late now to extend my 60 day visa.

I wasnt to know that I was doing anything illegal, all I did was say that I am staying for a further 30 days and is it possible to obtain a 30 day visa, the customs said yes but it will cost 1550 baht.

Considering that you are only supposed to get a 15 day entry from a land border crossing, given by immigration not customs, that was a neat trick. You are probably in the country illegally.

You seem to have an illegal stamp in your passport which would be obvious to anyone checking it so best you do not visit Immigration. You should leave and obtain a proper visa or visa exempt entry stamp. Your 60 day entry ended when you departed Thailand so it can not be extended.

It is to late to extend you original entry.

You could cross over the bridge and go to the consulate in Savannakhet and try to get another tourist visa. They are not very friendly but it might be worth a try. Just cross over early morning and go to the consulate put in your application. It will help if you have a bank or something to show that you have some money. I remember them asking a guy for a bank book that was trying to get a visa the last ime I was there.

If they say no then come back and get the 15 days on entry. If yes then spend the night and pick it up the next afternoon.

Which might be a problem if you cross the border again and they look closely at your passport. Technically you are on overstay.

Anyone else have any views and advice?

What did you pay 1550 baht for. I think that was for the visa to Laos.

IMO I don't think immigration will give him a problem if he leaves. He could just say that they must of made a mistake and stamped the wrong date or something.

Immigration can almost do whatever the want so it really isn't illegal because he does have a stamp from immigration giving hem a 30 day stay.

Technically on an overstay? surely it is their mistake, I only asked if 30 days was allowed to which they agreed.

When you pay a bribe to obtain a special stamp? That you may not have know what was going on will not help much if it is questioned. Best to get it behind you and enter on a new stamp.

You are right, they have given me a 30 day stamp for staying in Laos, my Thai visa was extended for 15 days and ran out on 18th May, any suggestions on what I can do please.

Now you are on overstay. The fine is 500 Baht a day.

That puts a new slant on it - and a short overstay is better than what it seemed - but you are going to have to pay 500 baht for each overstay day so you need to leave ASAP and return with a new visa or visa exempt entry. It is safer to leave by air but if you are on the border now I would do it there and now. It is about 3,000 baht now; plus visa fee to Laos again.

Any idea where the nearest immigration to Amnat Charoen is please.

It is costing you 500 baht a day since the 18th. Get to the bridge pay the fine and leave the country as soon as you can.

And try to get a visa at the consulate. It won't cost anymore than crossing the bridge other than taxi fare from the bus station to the consulate if the don't take your application.

Edit: You don't need to go to immigration first. It will better to go the bridge and pay the fine.

The immigration office for Amnat Charoen is in Khemmarat.

I would not go to Immigration. Leave at a border post, preferably by air if you can. As Lopburi said.

I will go to the bridge today, will it be straight forward, ie pay the fine then come back with a further 15 day stay??

I will have been in Thailand 90 days on the 2nd June, can I stay longer? Thanks.

It should be simple pay fine, exit and return. Put on a sorry face and all should be easy. There is no restrictions on how long you can stay in Thailand overall - just for each visit. So yes you can stay longer than 90 days.

There is no limit on the number of days you stay in the country. There was a rule before for exempt entries but it has been eliminated,

It might be worth waiting until tomorrow and trying for the visa or stay in Savannakhet tonight. The hotel Mekong is not much but it is cheap (about 400 baht).
