Car Buyer Complaint Centre Opened

Car buyer complaint centre opened

BANGKOK: -- Thai motorists have got a new ally in the fight against poor vehicle quality and shoddy after-sales service.

The Industry Ministry today opened a centre to handle consumer complaints about car quality, after two high-profile disputes which saw disenchanted owners take a hammer to their new cars in protest at persistent engine problems.

Industry Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal said the new centre would also serve as Thailand’s first official channel of communications between car buyers and automakers to help improve vehicle quality and after-sales services. Thailand is aspiring to be the “Detroit of Asia,” a regional hub for automobile assembly.

The centre, located within the Thai Industry Standards Institute, will pass on any complaint that car buyers have about quality to car makers and those involved with quality control and industry standards. Complaints will also be forwarded to the Office of Consumer Protection Board.

Mr Pongsak said the Industry Ministry should be able to submit draft consumer protection legislation concerning faulty cars to the newly-elected parliament as soon as the House is in session.

say, I was wondering. IF someone started smashing up the subway in a similiar fashion with a sledgehammer, could they also request a re-do of the system via the Office of Consumer Protection Board???

Does the new office extend to subways as well? I just imagine there'd be a couple of hundred people who could take hammers to it at the Cultural Center station.... or at the previously blacked-out other stations.
