I travel a lot and have almost filled up my US passport again after adding pages already once. On the Japan US embassy site they say they can only add additional pages two times. On the China US embassy site they say they can only add additional pages three times. On the Thai US embassy site they don't mention any limitation. Does anyone know if there is a limitation and what it is with the US embassy in Bangkok and/or other nearby countries? Obviously I'd prefer to just add pages rather than get a new passport.

Thanks.

Back in January I heard one of the employees at the US Embassy BKK say 3 additions was the maximum, And then on a subsequent I heard a person get told that 2 additions was the maximum, at this visit I got my third addition by a different employee. Looks like it may be hit or miss, not everyone is on the same page.

I asked this question once when getting my third set of additional pages and was told that it is up to the discretion of the consular officer. I'm guessing that they would look at how unwieldy your passport book is getting, the amount of time until it expires and things like that. So, at least in Bangkok, no fixed rule.

I was always under the impression that adding passport pages was always up to the discretion of the consular official. I added my third set of additional pages to my passport at the US Consulate in Chiang Mai two months ago. I was told then that the limit is three sets of additional pages. I suppose that "up to the discretion of..." and "three sets max" are not mutually exclusive though.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't realize they had a US Consulate in Chiang Mai. I'll give them a try next month when I'm there.

When I was i BKK in April of this year, I had two sets of inserts added to my passport at the same time.

The young man who first tried to assist me, wasn't sure if I could get two sets added at the same time.

He went in the back and presented my passport, along with my two completed applications, and within fifteen minutes handed back my passport with two sets of new pages inserted.

Sometimes it is nice to know the system better than the people who should know. :)
