There is also a paper on the window at the Thai border that for a 90 days extension you must show(not pay) 20,000 bath.

I was there last week but no one asked for it. I think it's best to have the 20.000 bath with you.

Actually that has always been a requirement, if and when they want to enforce it, for entry or visa issue - the regulation is 10k for single or 20k for family using tourist entry or 20k single or 40k family if using non immigrant visa entry.

It is 500 baht or a $10 bill to enter Burma.

Sometimes the Myanmar immigration officials really want the 500 Baht (seeing as it is about $15 USD), I have been there recently and they were throwing $10 USD back at the people and arguing forcefully that the money was no good, pretending to inspect the money, all that sort of thing.

On the other hand, other days they are fine and take the $10 USD. It really depends and there is no rhyme or reason to it.

Some days the immigration people are extremely rude and speak in Burmese obvious insults (to the amusement of the clerks typing up the day passes), and other days they are the image of decorum.

I go with 500 baht in one pocket and $10 in another and try the $10 USD first. It has worked 3 out of the last 4 times, though one time there was obvious dislike of the denomination.

Cheers,
