Bangkok “the city of healthy and safe food”

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok’s municipal authorities plan to launch a campaign to make the city “the capital of healthy and safe food”.

This year is to be the year of food safety for Bangkok, the capital’s deputy governor, Dr. Pensri Pichaisanith, told TNA.

Bangkok officials and food control experts have drafted a master plan to improve Bangkok’s food safety, with its first phase to be launched over the next one year.

It involves more stringent monitoring measures.

The plan is part of the government’s strategy to increase the standard of food safety among food sellers and restaurants throughout the country to guarantee consumers’ safety.

The key strategies to do this include increasing the efficiency of food safety control through new technology and practical monitoring system for food contamination, building consumers' confidence through the creation of an established health insurance system, and opening for public participation in the monitoring system to gain their confidence in the system, the deputy governor said.

With both the private and public sector support, Bangkok should become a city of healthy and safe food within coming months.

This saddens me. Somebody in the Thai government must be slipping. Surely this story should claim that Bangkok is slated to become the hub of healthy and safe food!

This is the same old crap being said over and over again :o

"Thailand will be the number one leader of ... in Asia."

Examples:

- At the latest Thai animation show in BKK, someone said, "Thailand will be no.1 animation producer in Asia.

- New airport: "Thailand's new airport will be no.1 airport in Asia."

With avg. Thais read 8 lines of text per year, increasing corruptions, lack in income distribution, I cannot see how it will happen.

Does the "new technology" include breaking all of the food handlers fingers to prevent them from picking noses and scratching a$$'s. Seems to me that a key word was missing in the article, SANITATION

As places around the world go, I think that Bangkok is pretty good

for safe food, even the street vendors, now.

If you want it to be squeaky clean that is another matter.

The Singaporeans have done that and now get sick at the slightest sign of dirt,

rather like the Yanks and Europeans.

Without any exposure your body never builds any immunity and you will

get sick very easily.

As my mother and grandmother would say, "you have to eat a peck of dirt before you die!"
