instead of heading each weekend to cambodia,

I would like to know, if it is illegal to gamble online for real money in thailand?

dont wonna have an unpleasant visit and following consequences

The authorities are constantly blocking internet gambling sites, so yes I would imagine it is illegal to gamble if one is on Thai soil as such

Yes its illegal

So is not wearing a motorcycle helmet. Much the same except online gambling is easy to overcome and the police can't see you. If you get caught, you'd be looking at a fine of around 500-2000 baht.

I had a girlfriend who was a dealer in a casino here 10 years ago - the place was raided and she was fined 400 baht. It's not as serious as people make out unless you are operating big time on someone else's turf.

I've often wondered about this myself. If you are on the internet are you gambling in Thailand or where the website is based?

If I had a telephone bookmaker in the Uk and phoned from Thailand to give my instructions, would I be breaking the law? After all you are using the internet to send your instructions to place a bet.

Have you seen this site?

http://www.ladbrokes.com/home/th

A Ladbrokes gambling site in Thai language. It can only be aimed at Thais can't it? Why isn't the Thai government up in arms about Ladbrokes trying to encourage Thais to gamble?

Personally I do not gamble on the horses or football, but I do trade CFD's on the internet. That's contracts for difference on stockmarket indices and shares. There's very little difference between trading CFDs and spreadbetting, so am I gambling or investing?

I think that it's another grey area and as long as you don't start placing bets for Thai citizens, you'll probably be ok. But up to you :)

Its actually alot more complicated than your thinking. I have had the problem here as I love, absolutely love to gamble. I play a lot of online poker, and recently had a problem with authorities as I had been playing with cash online, however as I hadn't with drawn any money or deposited it from Thailand, it was existing money in my account I ended up having to pay a small processing fee 'aka bullshit money' and wasn't asked any more questions.

I think you just need to worry about how you handle the money, if you have an overseas bank account and you do a transfer here with that money to a website I don't think there is much they can do.

But be careful. They love their bribes when it comes to gambling. Have had sooooo many issues with that here.

What authorities? How did they find out? Were you playing in an internet shop?

I've been arrested for playing cards - got taken to the station, they tried to scare me, found out I was a respected member of society :) and let me go.
