At some point in the process you might try and magic lasso the

doorway and window with photoshop and bring back the detail.

The picture is a testament to the beauty and depth of tone that HDR can reveal.

I enjoy doing people pics with the process that you mostly only see used with

landscapes for obvious reasons.

Been experimenting with Photomatrix , let me know what you think did i over cook it?

Made from a single RAW image with 3 exposure adjustment -2 0 +2 in lightroom.

It is always the muddy sky (highlights) which annoy me....as the rest is usually OK.... I suppose we could correct it in Photoshop...

Agree about the muddy sky.

was the hdr capture technique and tone mapping created to display a dynamic range much closer to human eye perception on 8 bit displays? not to be offensive experimenting is always good, and everyone is free to create the images he likes, but I think many here are missing that point.

If possible, please, could you use the K.I.S.S. principle (Keep It Simple S.......) an old DOS saying btw

try to evaluate the way you perceive light with your own eyes and compare to many (it doesn't mean all) of the photos posted here and you will understand what I mean, don't need to teach or read, just evaluate with your own eyes.

Or maybe my eyes are wrong, because I am able to see dynamic contrast. I saw many photos here having white becoming gray and shadows becoming gray too, including a lot of dark halo around objects.

By the way there are some very good example on your bridge photo and the last fabianfred photo, these example for me are far much closer to what my eyes can perceive more than a traditional photo.

Well little can beat the eyes for capturing an image...... I remember in my film days i liked colour transperencies the best because film can capture a greater tonal range than paper....so printing lost something. Looking normally at anything, our eyes adjust focus and open or close to allow for strong highlights or shadows. Perhaps the HDR does try to equal this....

I think KISS pre-dates DOS be a few decades ... and I think aeon is saying that the pics with funny colours aren't HDR, while pics like fabianfred's last one are (normally a single exposure like that would have either the view through the doorway or the inside of the room exposed properly, but not both, because the camera's dynamic range is too small. HDR techniques allow both to be captured).
