Has anyone heard of, or have an opinion on, the locally manufactured dog food GM Turbo or GM HiCal?

I went to my usual kibble supplier in Bangkok and asked if he could recommend a more economical alternative for my Lab. He's becoming a big boy and he's costing about 3,000 a month in Science Diet Kibble.

I don't want to deprive him of what he needs (and he does look superb for it) but in this day and age it's time to start cutting back where possible.

The supplier suggested a locally made (but exported) product called GM Turbo. It has a very high protein level and is aimed at muscle dogs like rottis and pit bulls. He said that it will also work wonders for my lab and any other 25+ kg dogs.

I thought I'd give it a bash so picked up a 15kg bag. It was only 800 Baht, 3 times less than my current, and I have started phasing him onto it. He is having a mix of Science Diet as well at the moment until his system gets used to it.

So far he seems quite happy for it. He definitely likes the taste and I haven't seen any drop off in activity etc. His stool is very soft at the moment though has a constant colour and isn't watery. I'm assuming this is probably from the diet change. Saying that; he always had soft stool on Science Diet.

Is anyone else using this? Anyone had any experiences I should be aware of?

I guess no one has heard of or used this product. I'll keep you all up to date anyhow. I find hearing other people's opinion on food is very helpful.

BARF diet well documented in this forum and on other web sites works out at around 1,500 Baht per month for my two 30 Kg dogs.

I have read two most interesting studies on 'pet food' in the past month or so (although the studies are older) and although they are both American in origin give an insight into the junk and 'food' waste products that go into pet food - as well as the processing that is required to make kibble attractive for a dog to eat - I.E. It is sprayed with fat.
