I run in the local park every day, the route is about 5.7K k long, but since I am a fat bastard it is more than enough for me.

Yesterday as I was pushing myself to finish the route, I could see my motorbike about 200M away. My eyes were soaked from the run, my clothes were soaked from the run, I was completely exhausted from the run, you get the idea, I was tired.

Suddenly 3 men came running from around a corner, two of them clearly chasing the third, which ran straight towards me. Then I saw it, the second guy had a gun in his hands, my blood was not warm anymore, ice cold comes to mind. I could then hear the gun missfire several times aimed at the first guy running about 2M infront of me, I am not joking, it was infront of me.

They second guy yelled something I have never heard before so all I did was jump to my side and ran like a shit scared rabbit over too my bike and started it up, I am not going to be around when the happens.

The security guards in the park were trying to call the police but noone had credits on their phones (sure!)

The first guy were sitting on the ground with the gun to his head and I could still hear the two others yelling at him. The suddenly they stopped and pulled up some handcuffs. They were the police!!!

I guess that the new policy is to shoot as many people as possible and then if they live, take them inn.

I have lived here in Thailand for 7 years tomorrow, same school all the time, I have seen knife fights and stick fights, even the occational sword fight. I have seen and heard people getting shot a few times, I live in Nakhon Si Thammarat (should say it all). But, I have never ever been at the other end of the gun, like yesterday.

Guess you can never get used to beeing on the other end of the missfireing gun...

I am happy to be alive today, and exercise is dangerous! :)

I remember reading a story about a traffic cop in Khlong Toey who loses it regularly. When a driver doesn't stop, he has a tendency on occasion to take pot shots at them.

He has on two separate occasions shot bystanders in error. Unfortunately I can't find the link now.

On a more serious note, do you recall the Canadian professor that was shot in Chiang Mai by a stray bullet one or two years ago.

In a moment somebody will come on here and tell you it was your own fault for being a farang and if you don't like it, go home. :)

I am happy you were not shot.

And people always ask why British police generally don't carry guns, the American wildd west attitude towards guns is bound to end in innocent bystanders getting shot. I wonder how many hours per month these guys put in on the range, if any. No matter how good a shot you are anyway, shooting on the run only works in the movies.

Shooting on the run never works... Well it is easy to shoot, the problem is that you will never hit what you aim for while running, most people will not even hit anything with a handgun while walking...

That is why I got scared, the only person that they would not have hit would have been the guy they were aiming for. All bystanders, innocent or not would probably have gotten a souvenir from this.

I am so happy to be alive today.

JimJim, I have heard people saying that for years, do you know where to find those stats?

I know NST is known as the gangster capital in Thailand... But that is more outside town...

Glad you were not hit.

Glad to see that one cop dosen't take care of his weapon or ammo.

Shake it off.... go for a run tomorrow and forget about it.

In the American "wild west" it is not legal ( for the police ) to shoot at fleeing suspects. ( with few exceptions one being that if you don't shoot further injury or death will occur. )

Ya in the West the police would face criminal charges and definitely lose their jobs, not comparable in the slightest but knock yourself out if you think you are defending Thailand.

Its funny that some folk like to talk of leaving the danger and violence of the west to relax in the safety of the 'land of smiles'. You only need to read the newspapers in the west (UK for me) to see that there are almost daily shootings. Stories like this serve to reduce that difference a little.

It's not really that bad down here... I have never really had a problem with anyone in my time here and yesterday I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Not to worry, I will go for a new run at the same place at the same time today, now if it happens again at that place I might change the running routines...

Guess I will be ok, just a scary/funny story!!!

I'd be buying a lottery ticket whilst my luck was running hot...... :)

If you win you could put the money towards a treadmill.

Just joking....and sorry to hear of your scary run.

Big balls living down there. Hope lightening doesn't strike twice and you are safe on your next run.

I am no gun expert but when you see the ammo clips of some of the BiBs the bullets are tarnished/rusty be thankful that they don't seem to take too much notice on the state of their ammo guns and this could have saved your life with the misfiring gun.

Scarey shi1t....

nothing funny about this story and just shows that anything can happen anytime so alwasy be on your guard.

Avoid the setup is my personal motto. (another words if i feel threatened by anything i get out of the area/situation sharply)

but this was no set up and totally unavoidable you never know when trouble is coming.

Best of luck and a great narrow escape to tell the gran kids...

Actually I love to visit my wifes family down there in Pak Phanang. They are great, and really fuss over me. The worst bit is driving through Surat, with my wife muttering "Jai Yen Yen", every 5 minutes. That's proceeded by me saying. "What a stupid <deleted>" at somebodies driving antics. :)
