Hi!

We`re arriving Koh Samui on March the 22nd, and my sister and I would really like to go to the FMP on the 24th on Koh Phangan! How do we get there the easiest way? Hope to get a budget bungalow or hotelroom og Phangan, speedboats back home at night aren`t really tempting, especially not after the accident last month!

Do you have a recommendation on where to stay on Koh Phangan this one night and how to get there early on the 24th?

We`ll be staying on Samui First House on Koh Samui - anyone who knows that hotel?? I have booked us in for 6 nights there, but will still be staying 5 more nights on Koh Samui, if anyone reccomends other nice places to stay on Chaweng Beach..

Thanks a lot! am looking SO much forward to visiting this island now, have only been to Phangan and Koh Tao earlier.

You'll need to arrive earlier than the 24th in Koh Phang Ngan if you want to get a room near/in Hat Rin, the place will be rammed. Failing that, you can stay on Samui and speedboat it over.

Personally can't think of anything worse than a FMP. Loads of Farang acting like idiots and ruining the beaches of Thailand. Still enjoy, the culture

Nettemor,

First House is a good place to stay. It's at Chawengs north end and has a good beach.

Alternatively you can take the big slow boat to Phangan, a lot safer than any speedboat.

Thanks Limbos!!

I`m glad to hear! we thought first house would be a nice place and in the middle of everything :D Does these slow boats go from the other side of Samui? Do you know how long they take to Phangan?

Looks like we`ll be staying on the beach all night then! Hopefully there`ll be slowboats leaving for Samui early the day after..

Why dont you leave Sumui the night before the full moon, get the ferry to KPN then try and get a room on the north side of the island eg:Hat Salat, Hat Tien or maybe somewhere near Chalock Lam. From either place you will be able to get a taxi to Thong Sala and onto Had Rin for the party and then get home safely the next day.

If you are dead set on staying in Samui the Big Buddha/Haadrin boat leaves Koh Samui at 5:30 pm and first one back is 9:30 am. To be honest, you won't find any accomodation on Koh Phangan anywhere near the party the day of the party. And I don't recommend Had Salad (the west) or the northern side as you will find the return taxi to your bungalow quite expensive. Probably more than your room cost in the first place.

Although in general full moon parties are a groove, it is worth remembering that many of the locals have the opinion that 'bad things happen at full moon parties' and prefer not to partake

In other words keep your wits about you even more than usual!

Depends what you mean by close ! From the ferry terminal (Thongsala) to Haad Rin. There are AT LEAST 60 Bungalow resorts. Non of which are more than 20 minutes from the full moon party. Baan Khay would be ideal for you, (15 min from Haad Rin) No problem at all finding a place here.
Am i right in thinking there's a half moon party somtime in the next two weeks? What are these shindigs like?

After the Full moon party there is a mass exoudous of travellers. And as the half moon partys happen in between the full moon partys, numbers tend to be in there 500- 800 depending on time of year and people actually holidaying on the island.

SEAtramp, my husbands OWNS a bungalow resort in Ban Kai. We are full and have been since the 21st. As have all of my neighbors. Trust me, I do know what I am talking about. They will not get a bungalow in Ban Kai, Ban Tai or even possibly Thong Sala the day of the party.

One word..Rubbish. I have done it countless times. The only problem i get is maybe wasting a couple of hours finding a place, but have always found a place.

Oh well, I guess your experience far outweighs my 16 years living on the island.

It would seem so. TNG bungalow (Ban Tai) phone 01-970 2581 ask for Jim..ok. As of phone call 15 mins ago he has two bungalows (doubles) VACANT.

Interesting, never heard of it. Is it really a resort? Is it anywhere near the ocean?

I guess it is rubbish that I say we have 20 rooms and we have been full for days and that ALL of our neighbors are full. I guess it is rubbish when I say we have turned away at least 40 people walking down the beach looking for rooms yesterday and today(party is tomorrow) and I guess it is rubbish when I say we have had at least 100 phone calls from people trying to book rooms over the past 3-4 days. Or maybe we are just unusually popular?

Nettemor, if you want my advice (and remember, we own a resort in one of the most popular areas for FMP'ers) do not risk that you will be able to find a room on the day of the party. Sure, you may find some sh!thole after walking the beach for 3 hours. Or you will find something, the expensive rooms that no one else wants. But then, of course, by the time of the party you will be tired and sunburned. Your choice.

SEAtramp should chill out!!!

YOU may well know somewhere specific where YOU can find accomodation but that's no excuse to be rude and rubbish what the LOCALS are saying.

Try and think about someone going there who doesn't know the area and how well they would ACTUALLY do in finding accomodation.

Personally I would say that Jeanette should have no trouble with the speedboats (I TOO am speaking from experience but will also bow to a long term local's knowledge) if you:

a) Don't go for the cheapest / a small boat

:o Use someone recommeded by a LOCAL for a return trip

c) Leave Phang Ngan on the penultimate speed boat of the night.

OR

d) Pass out, sleep face down on the beach and catch the slow boat back in the morning.

So correct me if i'm wrong. Yes you can get rooms. As you say, from shitholes to expensive ones that nobody wants.

Is this sudden agression in the 'soft and exotic Samui-forum'-AIR maybe due to a postponed FMP which at least one of you would otherwise just be attending at this very moment?

Don't take too much moonlight if overheated, doesn't always have the perfect effect...(but does let steam off! :o

Well. what can I say except some people obviously don't appreciate a bt of levity and will always stoop to insults in an attempt to either be funny or get their point across - I try to avoid it where possible.

So, for the other intellectually challenged people out there, not a serious suggestion, although i'm not sure what is soooo wrong with waking up with a mouthful of sand after the FMP as long as you don't find your trousers round ya ankles!

Still even that could be considered better than the alternative if you think the boat you're about to get on is seriously overloaded or unseaworthy in general.

Right, enough said, don't wish to continue with this topic in this vein anymore - I'm quite concerned that my extraneous usage of multi-sylabillic words may cause a cerebral meltdown for some members.

I must appologise for the percieved agression - was just trying to make the point that being rude to the local inhabitants about their knowledge (or lack thereof) may lead to them witholding it from the more ignorant in future and it sorta went from there really.

Unfortunately, I'm not in LOS at the moment so not too worried about the delayed FMP although I am looking forward to getting to one (by boat) soonish.

Honestly, I just had a few too many beers and fancied an electronic quarell as it's much better than a real one which could end in fisticuffs. This way, I only hurt SEAtramp's pride and my typing fingers :D

Sorry guys, you can all chill out again now! :D

It can be war on the FMP...!

Last year a European couple's son went overthere with an American friend. They were approached by a few very friendly Thai...laughing and asking where they were from; the friend answered: from America....they beated the H..ll out of him and he was sent to Hospital on Samui...

At the same party they shot and killed, at another incident, a Thai...

Be careful
