Hey Guys,

I have been using samitijev for AGES, before that Bumrumgrad, however I have been going there for the past couple of weeks with stomach pains and issues and they prescribed me 2 sets of medicines and neither worked. Basically went in for my follow up on Saturday and the doctor said bluntly he had no idea and that they required exploratory surgery to find out the problem. Now, if I had at least had a blood test or some form of other test instead of just medicines perhaps I'd be more inclined to do it, but I am 21 and I can't see that they have tried to find out what it is enough to justify surgery.

Am I over reacting? If not, can you suggest a good place to at least go inquire about a second opinion? I stopped going to Bumrumgrad because of the price compared to the nicer Samitijev hospital imo.

I have a congenital heart defect as well, so for me surgery is definitely preferably avoidable and it feels unnecessary. Plus I am 21, why wouldn't I just supposedly go along with anything the doctor said?

I think you are very sensible to seek another opinion,

My experiences with comparable grade of hospitals that you've mentioned

were also unpleasantly similar, I find the doctor's young and inexperienced,

and you've got to ask for the next steps like further testings and examinations.

But I dont have any other hospital suggestions ...

Madness, run do not walk from this nicer place. Seek 3 other opinions before letting anyone here cut you. At most, start with a gastroscoe (tuge down the throad while asleep for a good look).

Do you know a Thai speaker who can accompany you?

If you do I recommend Ramatibodhi hospital in Bangkok. I had respitory tract infection, docs at Bumrungrad and Phayathai charged me alot of money and did alot of test to say either allergies to something "suspicious" in my lungs.

Wife took me to Ramatibodhi (govt hospital) and they did all the checks in one day, blood, piss, xrays etc. Diagnosed, laughed at the something "suspicious" and said their xray showed nothing. So no worries, take the meds and come back in1 week for a follow up.

I am still alive with nothing "suspicious" in my lungs :)

The normal way to proceed with this situation would be blood tests (to check haemoglobin -if you have any bleeding)

Gastroscopy-to make sure there is no gastric or duodenal ulcer

Colonoscopy-checking the lower bowel is ok

if they are all clear then wait and see....

certainly not cutting you open <deleted>!!

Any physician that would recommend surgery before he actually knows what's wrong is well... a physician I would avoid like the black death.

" cannot figure out what's wrong with ya, so let me whack away with my trusty knife"

That's scary!

Thanks for the advise. Yes, I can't imagine anyone agreeing to that, especially after literally no tests. Just months of attempted but failed medicating treatment.

I most definitely will get a 2nd and perhaps 3rd opinion... I have had surgeries before and know its something that should be completely avoided if possible.

If you need another quality hospital, you could also try Vejthani Hospital on Th Lad Phrao. Near Soi 107.

My wife was there for some weird bleeding and bellypain, they ran her around with all kinds of tests before a single cut was made. Which was necessary it turned out.

No idea if they are affordable for you. The operation was a success so I dont care what I paid.
