Delete Preinstalled Maps.

Featured Replies

I use a nuvi 770 , bought in the US, preinstalled with City Navigator Europe NT Deluxe & City Navigator North America NT 2008 Deluxe.

The map update notice from Garmin locks the screen, the only way to get out of is to do a reset ( a pain )

The maps are useless in Thailand , Anyone knows the exact file list to delete for removing the maps ?

Thanks

After deleting the existing map files, what map do you plan to use in Thailand and how are you going to load it? If you want to use Thailand Street Map, then a Garmin authorized dealer in Thailand, such as Gadgetrend, can do the job for you. It will cost you, the map isn't free.

Thanks for the suggestion; I want to do it myself !

I am using " Thailand City Navigator " v9 Also called "Thailand Street Map" on a SD card.

Regards

If you have Garmin MapSource installed and registered on your computer, transfer Thailand City Navigator (Thailand Street Map) from the SD card and move it to the Nuvi 770. The MapSource software will take care of overwriting the existing map files.

The maps are normally named gmapbmap.img if preinstalled.Anyway they will be easily to find they are located in the Garmin folder and are each around 1Gb of size.

Thailand city navigator can't be opened in mapsource because it is a different format.Any way you can just copy and paste the file to the Garmin folder in the unit if you have enough space available.

You should have a 'gmapsupp.img' or 'gmapbmap.img' file on the SD card; you can replace the map file, 'gmapsupp.img' or 'gmapbmap.img', in the Nuvi memory with the SD map file.. The map file in your Nuvi memory will be the largest .img file in the Garmin folder. I recommend making a copy of the Nuvi memory before you mess with it, just in case. MapSource is the best way to go, provided you can get it to work. Where did you get the Thailand map files on SD card?

you can just download (with utorrent) thailand 9.0_nt this will load on a sd card then you dont have to mess with your original maps......

The OP already has the requisite map on SD card, don't know why he wants to mess with the original maps memory files.
