When still living in the U.S. I had three conures and an African grey. Any good places to buy conures here in the Bangkok area? Or breeding farms in the area?

I am interested in having a conure also. I didn't want to buy one in Bangkok as I didn't think I could take it on the plane to Krabi. If anyone knows of a good/humane place to get a hand-raised conure or mid to small sized parrot in the Krabi/Trang area, I would be interested to know.

Today I visited two locations looking for conures. Of course, Chatuchak. Not as bad as I expected. Some places were filthy and the birds looked horrible. Other places were pretty decent. Also went to the market just south of Chatuchak (and directly north of Klong Bang Sue). Better looking "stores" there with birds, although still not much of a selection. Tons of sun conures, but not many other types of conures.

Try to avoid buying a Sun Conure, *Aratinga*. beautiful they may be but a PITA with their screaming.

Try to get a "Greeny". much quieter and more fun. *Pyrrhura*

My Thai neighbour has just spent a fortune on exotic birds and thinks they are for decoration...... I'm waiting to see how long he puts up with the screaming.

Next will be his Sulphur Crested Cockatoo in the wooden cage :)

Oh, how well I know. I have seen that over and over. I once walked out of a pet store in the States because I couldn't stand the sun conure's constant screaming.

I had a Greencheek in the States, as well as a Peach Front. Both were sweet birds, although the Greencheek was a terribly jealous bird.

Someone recently mentioned that they had found a crimson bellied conure here in Thailand and I have read very favorable pet comments about that group. So, that's what I am hoping for.

I understand your thinking. Birds need a lot of interaction. They are work!

I have to admit, a species I cannot stand due to the dust and a tendency toward meanness later in life. African greys are wonderful...I had a Timneh...but I would prefer a shoulder bird rather than a talker.
