For the two previous years my wife and I have applied separately for retirement visas and have therefore satisfied the 1.6m baht requirement held in a joint account. This year, we would like to apply for my wife's visa as a spouse dependancy thereby reducing the financial status requirement to 800k baht in the bank for 3 months prior to application. Is this possible? We have read that all subsequent applications must be the same as the initial application, in which case we would be stuck with having to prove 1.6m baht in the bank prior to every future application. Thank you in advance for any help with this question. Regards. Andy

There is no rule that says you always have to extend your permission to stay on the same reason you got your first permission to stay. many people change their reason to stay. So it should be no problem, but it always depends on how your local immirgation office interprets the rules. Did you contact them yet?

As far as I know there is no rule that says you cannot change the reason for your wifes extenion.

The money will have to be in an account in your name only. If you have a joint account they would still want to see 1.6 million number.
