Hi,

I have recently been selected for a position to work in Bangkok. At present, HR is trying to process my work permit and have requested for a few documents; previous work permit booklet or documentation, or my transcripts and diploma. I have previously worked here in Bangkok but no longer have my old work permit booklet or other documentation. My transcripts and diploma are in storage in Australia and it would be difficult to ask someone to find them. I have requested for copies from my university but this will take time. I wish to enquire whether there is any way to obtain evidence of my previous work permit so that my new work permit can be processed more easily and more quickly?

Thanks.

your employer is doing problem where there should have not a single one.

application for a work permit is easy and doesn't require a lot of papers from you(the employee) but a lot from the company.

on your side you should just have a medical certificate and 4 pictures with a tie and suit, if you wanna be a teacher, i think diploma and police record are needed.

I have never seen the previous work permit book being requested for an application for a new work permit. Perhaps your new employer wants to show to the employment department that you have previous experience in the type of work for which he is hiring you and for this purpose the work reference of your previous employer would be much more useful.

Anyway, until recently the work permit book had to be returned to the employment department upon termination of the employment and therefore it could not possibly be in your possession now.

Basically, your employer needs to demonstrate that he cannot find a Thai national to do the job for which he is employing a foreigner, and that you are qualified for the job.

It is my understanding that your work permit will be in an online database. I don't know if old wp's are also mentioned there, but it would seem logical.

Didnt have to produce my old WP when I applied for a new WP with a new company. They asked for my degree and I told them I had lost it.

No problems, company still got a 2 yr WP for me.
