I was thinking of going for the first time, but it appears in all the photos I see that attendance is very sparse. Or, are the photos not accurate representations of attendance? I would be taking my Thai SO.

Thanks.

In past it has been around 10,000 people attending every year. Everybody seems to have a great time judged by all the smiles. An event I always look forward to.

It was good. The family had fun until the event was invaded by pattaya and khao san. Most of the families left after they all came. There was a nice aircon room for the kids with different games and face painting and a separate play area for families with a dunk tank and things to play on. Food was decent. Worst i tasted was from Bourbon Street. They shouldn't have the right to say its New Orleans food. I think the big winner was Sunrise Taco's as you could see from the huge crowd it always had. Great taco's and salsa. The grilled burgers and dogs were great too from AMCHAM. I found it funny some of the vendors were brits.

I have to agree on your comments on Bourbon Street.  The supposed pulled pork sandwich was horrible.  I was rather surprised as I liked their Christmas buffet.  The BBQ Sandwich King had a nice smoked pork rib chili, and the one from Red Sky (or something like that) was very good.

Overall, though, I was disappointed.  A 300 baht entry fee seemed high given the lack of free food/things to do.  I spent 1,500 baht for two people for not that great of a time/food.  That night, I went to The Great American Rib Company for better food and good music for 900 baht (for two, once again.)

My kids asked about it, I said we weren't going because I saw no point paying 300 baht just to get in for what I thought would be mediocre food.

They weren't in the least bit disappointed - the next day they got to eat all sorts of better food in Emporium for a heck of a lot cheaper.

Must try The Great American Rib Company one day - but I always see mixed reviews, and the one time I had their ribs (two years ago at the July 4 party) - they weren't that good. But given that they had to mass produce way more ribs than they can probably sell in the restaurant, they can be forgiven for not being able to maintain the same high quality.

Well, the 300 baht goes to a charity and the food was ok, better with beer of course. :)

Don't mind giving money to charity - but 300 baht for an entrance fee is still too steep, especially when it doesn't give you anything other than access to more expensive stuff. As far as I know, all of the money from purchases also goes to charity... they've got to strike a better balance.

Personally, I suspect there's more to the higher entrance fee, something to do with the location...

well there certainly was overhead... ie security, police, cleaning, shuttle vans, entertainment. staging, electricity and so on.

Let's get the date right! It's on SATURDAY THE 2ND OF JULY not Sunday or Monday according to this flyer.

http://www.idaybkk.com/

Not e the date on the original posts - 2009.

What a crack up! This happens a lot more than you think. TV needs to start cleaning up the posts that are older than say 6 months or no more than a year. Better yet, if there's been no activity after 3 months "close" the post then all post about the same subject needs to be a new one. Make sense? Example there are subjects like American Football which has how many post now? And the original date is several years ago. Talk about confusing people.

In fact why not start a new topic here. So I will.
