I have been living in Thailand for three years, I am married to a Thai, I am sixty two. For the past three years my wife and I have been returning to the U.S.A. every year for a visit, while in the U.S.A. I get a one year visa, based on married to a Thai, from a Thai consulate, using this type visa I need to make 90 day border runs. I am currently in the U.S.A. returning to Thailand the end of august. We will be staying in Thailand for at least two years, I would like to get a visa that does not require border runs, I have the monthly income required, what documents will I need, and can this be done in the U.S.A. before we return to Thailand.

You can get a single entry non-immigrant O visa, instead of the usuak multiple you always get. This will give you 90 days to stay in Thailand. In Thailand itself you can than ask for an extension of stay for 1 year and every year afterwards. To get an extension of stay based on your marrigae you will need to show a montly income of 40,000 baht a month. Alternatively you can show a bankaccount in Thailand in yur name with at least 400,000 baht. You must have the money there for at least 2 months before applying for an extension.

Income is proven with tax papers, wen the income is from abroad you will need a letter from your embassy confirming your income.

It can be done in US but will require a police check and a medical report - it is called Long Stay visa and information should be available on the Washington Thai Embassy web site.

Another route, which should be easy if you have pension of 65k or more, is to obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa (rather than the multi you normally get) and during the last 30 days visit Immigration with a letter from the US Embassy listing your monthly income (you write the figure down and swear to it) and it will cost $30. You take that, passport, 4x6cm photo, copies of passport/arrival card and visit Immigration. Fill out TM.7 form and pay 1,900 baht for a one year extension of stay. You do the same process each year. No need to ever leave - but if you do you obtain a re-entry permit first to keep your stay alive. If you stay 90 days without leaving you have to report address but other than that just a yearly visit to Immigration.

You will also need Marriage Certificate. Wife's ID Card and House Book. Photos of you and your Wife in and around the house. A map showing the way to your house. You and your Wife will be interviewed. Application form 1,900 Baht fee.

You will be given a 30 day under consideration stamp. Go back in 30 days and get the rest of your extension.

Border runs.... or stamp visa. For me living in Chaiyaphum that is exactly the same thing Almost. I must go up to Tha Li (300 km one way) and stamp my visa every dam_n 90 days.

So yes retirement visa , stamp visa every 3 month. That is the BEST you can get.

I think you are talking about the 90 days report. Yes it has to be done. But it can be done by post at most Immigration Offices.

Can I get the one year multi entry in the U.S. and then get an extension of stay when I get to Thailand?

Yes if you plan to apply for the Extension in the future. If you plan to extend pretty soon why waste money on a Multi?

The pictures are to show both living together so will likely be required (even if her blue book is the same) - they like to have some photos for the file. I would also have a sketch to home or be prepared to draw one.
