Did a quick bit of research on my favoured flight booker - opodo.com - on the London to BKK to London route. Thai is murderously expensive for departures in late July, returning late August (eg £1,419 cf British Airways £943), but it is true they are cheap for late August departures returning late September (and may be true for earlier flights in August) - typical price of just over £500 which is extremely good value for the direct run, although on some dates EVA till can beat it by £20.

So, for once the Thai Airways PR is not all hot air (and I am no fan normally) - although you still have to pick and choose dates carefully to get the best deal. Are there realy that many Brits coming to Thailand in the second half of July. Maybe the TV half-empty merchants are calling the toutrist recession wrong?

It's Peak season from mid July to mid August. It doesn't matter how many Brits are travelling.

I think the "cut-off" date is around the 16 or 18th August. After that the prices fall dramaticlly.

Good news...Ads previous says, august is generally peak season for holidays for europeans/Yanks etc... I have been looking at September and EVA are running a promotion....@ 405.00 for direct from LHR-BKK with Thai at 500.00. The Thai price is what i payed them in march so i am stoked to get direct for 405. It was on Netflights.co.uk by the way...I always leave on a thursday and return on a saturday..I think leaving during the week can have an impact.
