Hi All,,

I have been on to the Thai Embassy regarding retirement visa's, A bit hard to understand on the phone so we thought someone may have the answer.

We have been told , "Or this is how I understand it"

If a married couple wants to retirement in Thailand you only need 65.000 Baht or 800.000 Baht in the bank for a couple same as a single,, BUT it says that as I would be the one applying I would get a O-A visa but my wife would only get a "O" temporary visa, Has anyone had any experance in this because if my wife only had a temporary visa how long is it for , How will it differ from my O-A visa, Will she be able to have her name on a title if we buy a place in Phuket , Drivers licence, We are just not sure how this type of visa will afect her permant living in Phuket.

Greatfull for any help

If you had a Non Imm O-A Visa your Wife would get a Multi Entry Non O Visa. This would give her unlimited entries of up to 90 days each time. For a year. This would mean that she would have to leave Thailand every 90 days and return.

If you both arrived in Thailand with Non Imm O Visas. you could apply for a twelve month extension at Immigration by meeting the financial requirements. Your Wife could apply for a 12 month extension as your dependant. Neither of you would then have to leave the country but would have to report to Immigration every 90 days.

Whatever neither of you will be able to own land in Thailand. You can own a Condo under certain circumstances. You can also rent or lease.

Either way you could both apply for a driving license.

These are the extension rules. 2.22 for you and 2.20 for your Wife.

Both of you could also apply for Non-Immigrant O-A provided both of you are 50+ but that means each of you would need to show 65,000 baht income per month or 800,000 in the bank.
