I have been locked out of my internet banking with the HSBC from the UK. I have gone through to the fraud department and after the usual security it transpired that some one had tried to get funds from my bank account yesterday.

I was told that as I had been using a proxy server through to the Uk this last week this had explained it.I have used www.hide-ip-soft.com/( I have been watching the bbc iplayer) .They say there is nothing wrong with the this company but they have been compromised and have already taken money from others.I made the mistake of still using the proxy sever while logging onto my internet banking account.I must say that this company(hide ip ng) in their adverts say they are completely secure and safe , which I know now not to be the truth.

I have been advised to run a full scan and then report back to them.It would seem that I may have and Mcafee been compromised with a trojan virrus. The bank said it may have got through my firewall.(the scan is running now)

They say that it should be ok as long as I do not log on via my proxy server again, but no guarantees.Thank goodness for HSBC's alertness in this matter.

Yet another learning curve for me and I hope this warning helps others....

Wow that's bad.. Thankyou for the warning as I also Bank with HSBC in the UK.

My account gets locked quite often, and I always have to call them, but they just say its because I am withdrawing from Asia...

I never have to worry about banking fraud because my bank account is always empty....

Do you think someone might scam me and deposit 400 million baht into my account?? (Calling Nigeria.....)

lol!!!! yep if someone does you will be able to join square face where ever he is!

have done the scan and nothing has come up on my report so looks like the info was creamed off going through the server(proxy)...Unless of course the scan cannot find the trojan....

Thanks for the warning.

This would have worried me though. :)

Try running housecall Trend micro scan as well. This is an online scan so it does not matter if you have another virus scanner running at the same time.

hi pattayagirl, heres a tip for you

write a strong letter to HSBC using their on line complaints service on internet banking, complaining about the constant lock outs, the cost of calls to resolve it. etc etc

i had a genuine complaint about that very thing and they credited me with £35 for my trouble

might get you a few beers.....

DW,

Try scanning with Avast Anti Virus. I have tried most anti-virus programs, but Avast has always picked up where others have not. Its available in free 'home use', they will send you a free key to your email. You can try a regular scan, but I recommend doing a boot scan (as its done in DOS mode). Its available here:

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

As you have already been made aware, it is unwise to access bank accounts through the proxy, but I would also suggest 'clearing private data' from firefox or IE regularly. This will remove cookies (and passwords if required) from your hard drive. A reasonable program that does this automatically is called 'windows washer' although there are a number of others. Washer is available here:

http://www.webroot.com/En_US/consumer-prod...ndowwasher.html

I would recommend using foxy proxy program for setting up use of proxy servers, so that proxies are ONLY used for specified/desired web pages. This should reduce the likelyhood of fraud.

This certainly begs the question is it worth using proxies to stream internet TV, or is it a safer option to use a peer 2 peer programs like Emule/Vuze etc to download pre-saved TV shows in the form of torrents or ed2k files?

Thanks for sharing this info Dave.

Looks as though my first wife has married again. She's obviously been out buying more bluddy shoes. :D:D

Thank God some other fool is paying her way now!!
