I have a double entry visa from Australia and in two weeks I will have been here for two months so I will have to do the visa run thing.

Due to commitments I can only stay in Thailand for three months max so I was thinking it would be easier to go to Korat about 100k away and get a visa there. Can I get a one month visa in place of my D/E and if so what would it cost me in time and hassle. Previously I have been doing the Nong Khai run but it's a bloody long day on my poor old body.

Also for next visit can I get a three month visa before I come so I don't have to do a run? :)

The validity time of the visa itself not the same as the length of stay the immigration officer grants you at the entry point. Many people misunderstand this and do not realise that they are two different things.

Your double entry tourist visa is most likely valid 6 months, but could also be only 3 months, from the date it was issued in Adelaide. Hence, this allows you to enter Thiland twice within that 6 months period. On the first entry you will be granted 60 days permission of stay and this permission can be extended up to 30 days more provided you visit the immigration before the 60 days period expires. The cost for that is 1,900 bath currently. Bring along a newly passport photo 4x6 cm.

On you second return you will again be granted 60 days permission to stay in Thailand provided you arrive before the expired date of your visa, else you will only be given 30 days stay based on visa exemption if you have a western passport. If you qualify for the 60 days, i.e. arriving within the visa validity time, you may again apply for an extra 30 days at the immigration against the fee of 1,900 baht.

And only if you arrive by air. If you do a land crossing/return it would be 15 days.

You are probably talking about a Non Immigrant O Visa.

3 month validity, single entry non-immigrant visa: pre-obtained at a Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate and will result in the holder obtaining a 90 day 'permission to stay' stamp. This visa can be extended up to one year for specific reasons and with the required documentation (see 12 month extensions).

12 month validity, multi entry non-immigrant visa: pre-obtained at a Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate (usually) in your home country and will result in the holder obtaining a 90 day 'permission to stay' stamp upon entry. Each time the holder enters the Kingdom whilst the visa is valid, he/she will obtain a further 90 day 'permission to stay stamp'. Such visas can be issued for students/work/family etc. but normally require supporting documentation. This visa can also be extended up to one year for specific reasons and with the required documentation (see 12 month extensions).

Generally, a Non-O multiple entry is not as easy to obtain as a Tourist Visa as you often have to fulfill certain requirements, Single Entry should be easier. If you are not retired or married, you have to go for 'visiting a friend' . Do a search on the board (search form) on 'Perth'.

Be prepared to do a lot of reading and/or call the embassy :D Otherwise stick to the Tourist Visa, since it is easier to obtain and with the 30-day extension from immigration you get 90-days per border-run, too.

Anybody can give a brief overview on practices for a Single Entry Non-O?
