None, and I don't remember seeing many tatoos before coming to Thailand. Seen a lot on men since. My anthro bok on Tai ethnic groups says Tai-Yai males had to have a tatoo as a sign of manhood. Lots of Hill Tribe men are highly tatooed.

I have one on my forearm. It is a souvenir of a drunken night in New Zealand from 45 years ago.

My wife like many Thai ladies has a scar on the calf of her leg from a motorcycle exhaust pipe. She considered getting a tattoo to cover it but changed her mind so she has none.

Gary: Thats' the famous Thai birth mark!! most ladies have that.

Myself, three upper arm tattoos, two martial arts related, one army related.Cannot see them with a normal short sleeved shirt, however i have never been looked down upon for having these, most people are curious about them. They are certainly high quality and colorful tats.My wife has a Buddhist tattoo on her finger and back, and she is no skank or former BG,and has a good job in the Thai government.Anything to do with Buddha brings instant respect in Thailand, tats included. :D:)

None for me and I made a very close, inch by inch inspection of my g/f tonight when I noticed this topic. She has none also :)

My mate got his Thai GF to have a sudoku puzzle tattooed on her lower back. He reckons that it takes his mind off the event when they are having hanky panky, so that it lasts longer. She seems well satisfied with the results.

Thai women with tattoos normally have a fair bit of 'history' behind them.

Stereotypes are such fun aren't they.

My ex wife who had no history got an orchid tattooed when I had my stomach piece done because she rather liked mine and thought they were fashionable. I have three large pieces, a very responsible job and the two work perfectly well together. In recent years some clever chap invented the shirt which means my tattoo's can be covered up at will allowing me to practice my profession.

Yes,every Thai woman with a tattoo MUST HAVE BEEN A BG....... :) I see plenty of young ladies getting lower back tattoos, they feel it is quite fashionable. :D

Who says history = former prostitution careers? That's not what was said.

As for "history" (as long as they aren't inter-Thais or those obsessed with religious type tattoos), as in terms of multiple partners above the average for societal norms, wild child days, etc., I generally agree. IMO local gals are a little less likely to get cut unless they have some substantial emotional and physical mileage.

I have one tattoo on my back/shoulder, looking to get one more of a traditional tattoo of my country, but done with old school technique.

I think tribal tattoos, chinese signs and other fashion tattoos are stupid. I think of tattoo as art not holding any 'meaning' or such. I like the Japanese style tattoos.

Don't like tattoos on girls. Most thai girls I've had the fortune of seen naked like my tattoo but doesn't want one themselves as it's 'not good', 'for bad girls' and so on. Nothing says Pattaya like a big tattoo.

I have 2 tattoos, and my old gf got one of a butterfly in BKK because she was so captivated by my tattoos. So how many tattoos do you have and does your Thai GF or wife have any?

:) Most of my farang friends in Thailand have at least one, but many of them have 4 or more.

I have 8 tats, all done outside of Thailand, my "Gik" has one, a great smallish butterfly on her outside right ankle, done down in Krabi. :D

Hmmm... I guess if someone has Semper Fi or USMC tattooed prominently on their forearm or bicep thats gonna close some doors? NOT

I just seem to meet alot of guys with ink... always a good topic for conversation.

How many doctors, lawyers, professors, engineers, etc. have you ever seen with a "Semper Fi or USMC" on their forearm? Not many I suspect and it seems to be the enlisted men that have tattoos not the officers as they know in white collar professions they are frowned upon. As I said I have nothing against them I am extremely opened minded and don't care how much metal someone puts in their face or ink they have but society in general looks down on it, it's a shame people are so shallow and reject the idea of individuality but that is just how it is. All of that being said not one Thai person that I work with has ink any place evident nor did any of the staff I worked with in the USA. I do know of one female lawyer in the USA my wife worked with who decided to get a tattoo on her leg, she had a promotion coming and she deserved it, after being tattooed she was promptly limited to office work and put in an uncomfortable position until she finally quit, the truth was no one wanted to see her leg art when she wore a skirt, and chances are it would have influenced the judge and jury

Part of the reason I quit seeing this girl is because she had too many tattoos. I have none, if I meet a girl that I like with them, I am going to request that she get them removed.

Feeling the need to explain why you got them, speaks volumes.

Many people have tattoos as a piece of art, not because they have a meaning. Tattoing has been going on for thousands of years, it's natural. Personally I like Japanese colorful tattoos and some traditional tattoos from my country made with sharpened bone, they look great.

Tattoos typically indicate a personality disorder.

There isn't one good reason to get one, but dozens of reasons not to.

That be zero for me. Never was one to follow trends as they go out & you have to wait 10 years or more for them to be cool. That & I don't care for identifying marks other than the scars I have earned from work. & a surgery or 2.

I don't mind them & they are interesting to look at.Except the drunken stupor ones that have a girls name embossed on a body part.

two tats - one of left arm - welsh dragon, and MS Brit's name on me ankle. As for Ms. Brit - she has a fish tat on upper leg to hide a motorbike scar. :)

That's a good way of putting it. Most of the people the rise to the top like CEOs politicians or investors don't have tattoos.

Back in the eighties myself and a now departed and sadly missed friend had a wild night out in Pattaya and ended up much the worse for wear. At around 3:00 am he asked if I knew of any 24 hour tattoo artists nearby.

Back then there was one in walking street so in we staggered. As he was a Leeds lad he wanted a L.U.F.C (Leeds United Football Club for non Brits) tattooed on his leg. The tattoo artist was having real problems understanding my friend's drunken attempts to explain what he required so he handed me a piece of paper and a pen and asked

"What he want"

Have any of you out there tried to write when you are having trouble standing up?

Anyway the upshot was that for the rest of his days my friend walked around with a large LUFE tattoo on his leg.

Brad Pitt seems not to have a problem with La Jolie.

My body is similar to a temple. It is a one-of-a-kind work of natural art that cannot be duplicated. In the same way that I would not tat graffiti on the walls of a Thai wat, I would not desecrate my body with any disfigurement or mutilation.

Those who have tattoos have a different concept of respect for their own bodies.

Tattoos, no matter how colorful or "artistic," denigrate the purity of a person's id.

sad to see so many people here still judge a book by it's cover.

so shallow.

i have twelve tattoos, traditional sak yants.

some were done when i was a monk, some where not.

I don't have a personality disorder, and i have never been in trouble with the law,and i treat all people with respect regardless of there personal choices.

should i ever run a business i will judge people by there performance rather then there appearance.

my wife is thai also and she has no tattoos and she dislikes mine, fortunately she is not so shallow and looked beyond my tattoos, and took the time to get to know me.

because of needless stereotypes same of you may have lost potentially good staff and more importantly good friendships and relationships.
