Indian Grocery Stores

Featured Replies

Wondering where I can find a good Indian food store for all my basmati, chappati and ghee needs.

thanks.

hmmm....

seems like not many of those who bother to cook indian food - perhaps they prefer Thai food ? :o

alright, may be I can help a bit: the one I know is on Sukhumvit almost in fron of Robinson and near to Sheraton hotel and Times Square tower (plaza?) - it is called Pasand and is on the corner of Soi 12, right next to the fly-over walking bridge for pedestrians and next to bus stop. easy to find it. one can come ther by Sky train to Asoke station and walk back a bit to Soi 12.

another, smaller shop is some indian minimart on Soi 10 - not far from that first shop.

may be there are few more - mostly on Silom and/ or Sathorn or Chaoren Krung (is it?) Rd where the General postoffice is. because that is another area where indian comunity lives. but I can't tell coz I haven't seen any myself there - may be someone else knows better....

I hope this helps.

although one small note: for chapati you can buy wholegrain or even simple flour; and basmati you can substitue by high quality Thai jasmine rice - trust me. the only thing you can't substitute - ghee. but then you can make it yourself by clarifying butter on slow fire - it is not difficult. there is a process. otherwise - yeah, ghee they sell there. although it is always a question - is it real ghee or not. experts said many things about this sort of canned ghee - mainly whether it is realy 100% real or not .... but so far I used it plenty of times - and it is good enough.

anyways - good luck shopping !

Hey aaaa thanks a lot for the tips. Very helpful indeed. Ghee is a hassle to make so maybe I'll take my chances with what's on offer. Basmati is in a class by itself when it comes to flavour. I love Thai jasmine rice, dont get me wrong, but basmati is the ultimate.

Pasand does have a selection of Indian goods in the back of the downstairs mini-market.

There is also a shop offering a similar selection inside the Asoke market on the corner of Asoke and Sukhumvit behind the BTS/MRTA. If you enter from the Asoke Market side it is on the right hand side near Asoke

You could also try the area around Pahurat market- Little India- although I was somewhat disappointed with my findings there, although i did find a good Indian vegetarian restaurant. I do so like my indian snacks- Bhel, pani puri etc..

However for those rather than the hassle of going down to Pahurat i usually eat at My Malaysian Aunt just off of Sukhumvit Soi 8.

If you find anywhere selling Kurta (sp?)/pyjama I would be pleased to know
