Any Christian Social Groups

Hi, we are new to Phuket and don't know if there are any Chrisitian social groups/ are there any "young" christians out there? We have decided to start one just in case there are none so please feel free to join. Please PM me for more information.

We took them to the zoo and feed them to the lions. Seriously though, you're not going to be one of those groups that actively try to convert people are you. There's no place for groups like that anywhere as far as I'm concerned. In England I have even seen them hanging around outside nightclubs of all places. I'm sure they would love it if a handful of drunk clubbers turned up to their church on Sunday and tried to get everyone popping pills and dancing.

What type of Christian group? Is it a broad rainbow coalition or are the Pentecostals kept separate from the Roman Catholics lest they get into fisticuffs? Are the Anglicans that support the ordination of gays allowed in or will it be exclusive to the Anglicans opposed to the ordination of gays? What about the groups that talk in tongues, will there be interpreters? How will you handle the evangelical groups that include venomous snakes in their activities? I think it might be dangerous if the group is intended to be family friendly. How will you accomodate the teetotaling Methodists once the hard drinking members of the Reformed Church show up? This could give rise to sectarian incidents if not managed appropriately.

Are Kathoeys that are Christian allowed? I know they are welcome at Unitarian events but are not embraced at Baptist events.

So many questions and obstacles to overcome. Perhaps you may wish to clarify which "Christians" are ok. I suggest a checklist.

Are the muslims? and vice versa?

IIRC there is a catholic church in Patong and another christian church in Bang Tao (unsure of denomination) and also in phuket town - likely a few more aswell.

I've seen a Korean church on  the bypass road heading out of Phuket town towards the circle.  Also right by the circle I've seen a small church on the left hand side going towards Rawai.

Ok, there are lots and lots of Korean churches in the Chalong/Dowroong area , south of Phuket town.

I suspect the services will be given in Korean though.

On Chao Fa East there is a building that actually looks like a church, with a big white cross outside it.

There is a big church which gives services in Thai and English in Phuket town. I can't remember the name of the road though, but its a proper church. It's near the klong, just south of Phuket town heading towards Soi 11 kinda area.

Many Korean and Japanese too.

Goa in India is Christian

Some Thai are also Christian.

Yeah it does seem paradoxical i know, but some people want to get to heaven over continued rebirth i guess.

I work in a Buddhist school. We have a Buddhist monk as the school head. Occasionally we get Christian missionaries outside the school trying to encourage the kids to join their youth club. This can irritate me. I doubt Christians would take it too well if Buddhists were outside Christian schools trying to recruit their children.

I previously lived in a Thai village where the missionaries would bribe the local children into attending their services with the offer of free gifts. I disliked that too.

I have mentioned my irritation to my Thai colleagues in the past, but they think that it is nothing to worry about. So now I try and just ignore it too. If the Thai people don't have an issue with missionaries, why should I? Live and let live. Thailand is well known for its religious tolerance and this is a good thing.

The OP seems to just want to spend some time with her own kind and that sounds reasonable enough to me. She hasn't being trying to convert anyone. I hope she/he gets the information they require.

I'll have a look, main problem is finding English speakers, who like to do stuff i.e diving/coffee/pubs/travelling/surfing/loads of stuff, more of a community rather than the regular service. I can watch my home church online live but hanging out with decent people or at least ones who are trying would be nice, Thanks A

Thanks I'll drive round and see what I can find, my Korean is not tht great so I'll stick to the one on the Chao Fa East road. I' have time off work so I'll explore Phuket Town and see what can find. Cheers A

That's just it though, You're not just looking for people, you're looking for christians. It's interesting how in an earlier post you said 'finding decent people to hang with would be nice' insinuating all christians are good people and the rest of us aren't worthy of your time and friendship. It would make a little bit of sense if you were looking for people to pray with, but you aren't, you said you have that on-line already, so basically you are only looking for people to socialise with, and you only want to socialise with christians. I wonder what JC would make of that! He would probably tell you to be a bit more open minded and to socialise with good, honest, decent people, regardless of their faith.
