khunken
Recently Foodland has stopped selling New Zealand Cheddar cheese. They only sell Emborg & local versions of 'mild' Cheddar. For 'mild' read tasteless. I've tried Villa, Tops and the larger supermarkets - nothing like good tasty cheddar available. So, any suggestions on availability gratefully accepted. mjperry
The best I've found recently has been in the gourmet market in Emporium, was a good strong mature english cheddar Martin
Benjie
Don't tops carry Waitrose stuff? I bought some very nice cheddar fairly recently, it was on sale as well.

That's right they do, just tonight I ate some of the Waitrose west country farmhouse 12-month matured cheddar from my local tops @ Sukhumvit 41 which was reduced to clear, 74 Baht for a small 100g trial pack, it hit the spot but i preferred the one i picked up from Emporium before Martin
bojo
You most definitely get what you pay for here in Thailand. decent imported cheeses carry heavy import taxes, either that or the supermarkets have a monopoly or the demand is slow and therefore prices high. Excess and soiled stock costs money. For a mild cheddar, Macro carry a decent cheddar...2KG at around 599 or 699b, I forget. A fairly good compromise. regards Bojo

khunken
Many thanks to everyone who posted a reply. I'll certainly take up your suggestions for Foodland, Tops, Emporium & CEntral Chidlom - one at a time.
BugJackBaron
I will second the sugggestion of the gourmet at the emporium. It is the only one that seems to have old cheddar. As for Chesire....I have never seen it Thailand. Not in places high or low
TheLaughingMan
Maybe I'm ignorant on what good old cheddar is but Villa sells 2 brands of OLD cheddar, very strong and I love it. Vintage and cracker barrel I think, both have old cheddar as well as mild and medium.
Monkey Fish
I don't consider myself qualified to add to the comments above, but I would like to say that I'm always entertained by the enthusiastic response to any cheese threads. If thaivisa had a 'level 2' cheese would be the way to get there.
sabaijai
Tops carries Mainland Vintage, pretty respectable imported cheddar. http://www.mainlandcheese.com/Products/Vin...ddar_cheese.htm
phetaroi
I've been looking for monteray jack for when I make tacos. (Not to mention lactose free milk...and I do mean cow's milk).
