Hi,

My daughter who is Danish and 21 years old are backpacking around the region (she lives in Denmark with a Danish passport) and came into to Thailand from Cambodia by bus, crossing the border up there and got her 15 days. (1st entry)

Now, she is planning to already leave for Laos tomorrow and then return back to Bangkok via bus or train from Laos in about a week (2nd entry) and then plan to stay for 45 days........... ??!!!!!

She is then off to Fiji and will then return to Bangkok via AIR for another 2-3 days in late September before returning to DK.

How can we ensure this little puzzle to work out for her?

Cheers,

She needs to get a TOURIST VISA in Vientienne Laos at the Thai embassy. She only needs a single entry tourist visa based on your desription. They will allow a 60 day stay in Thailand so that covers her 45 days. When she returns to Bangkok from Fiji she will get a visa free 30 day stamp in her passport so that will cover her final 3 day stay. If she does not get the tourist visa in Laos, that will be a problem because she will only get a 15 day visa free stamp at the border when entering from land. If so, she will need to keep going in and out ever two weeks, I am sure she doesn't want to do that, its worth the effort to get the tourist visa in Laos.

BTW, based on your OP it sounds like you think there is a limit on the number of visa free entries (15 for land, 30 for air). There is NO LIMIT. So if she does decide she wants to pop back and forth over the border every two weeks (or 30 days for air entries), she can do so as long as there are free pages in her passport and cash to pay for the visas to the neighboring countries.

Hi JingThing,

Thanks a lot for this answer, really appreciated and also for the heads up about the no limit times, I thought they have a restriction on this, from memory I read about this, which is some years ago. As I work in Bangkok, all my visa is sorted through my employer, hence I'm not in the loop of things with this topic.

Thanks again and have a great Sunday. :)

I think there is now a limit of four 15 day entries back to back.

I don't think that is a generally applied rule, but even if so it is of no consequence to the OP's query.

There also USED to be a limit of TOTAL DAYS allowed on visa free stays during a six month period. That limitation no longer exists.

Have seen no actual report of more than a closer check being made. People living in Laos/other border countries may cross border several times a week in normal and allowed activites so such a limit is not practical.
