I think we are all interested in audio - who doesnt like music - its just that so much of it is this rap garbage, that it has dragged everything into the dumpster, so please get it up-and-running.

MP3, etc, is simply a music format, and not to be confused with quality. I love the portability we have today. For people who decry the iPod, etc, why not go back to your old black Ma Bell telephone, with its 30 foot cord, and drop all your iPhone convenience in the trash.

Lets not wreck a great idea - hi-fi isnt only about vacuum tube mono amplifiers. Its about enjoying music & sharing. Do it!!

Actually I could see a lot of people being put off a potential sub forum by Hi-fi snobbery that seems to already be showing its face.

My point was simply that you cant start with shit and end up with quality....IMPOSSIBLE. I have always though matching your equipment was important. Also I like amps that don't add flavour to the music, just do their job ....AMPLIFY.

Again, no question with the above statement. However, "matching" is the choice of word of many Thai high-end distributor's sales clerks. And quite a few of them seems to think simply combining equipment from the same brand (often including cables) achieves that. The word you're looking for, is probably "synergy". :)

Yes, that is the word I couldnt think of, but im also an aussie and a bit rough at times, but you understand where I am at.

Snobbery? My cheap Zen Stone with Sony ear plugs sounds great to me.

Sure and thats good, but we already have mention of a 3 million dollar record player/amp/speakers combo in the first couple of pages of the thread.

As a former audiophile (tinnitus from too many years in front of the brass section when I was young), I don't think it's snobbery. I think the terms have specific meanings to those who use or are interested in high-end audiophile music reproduction. Think of a surgeon using specific terms to describe an operation on your kid: s/he could go on for five minutes without most of us understanding a thing, but to another doctor, that would indicate the problem and treatment method of a particular surgical procedure - like taking out a burst appendix.

Of course, it may be snobbery, as in a US$2MM system; but I doubt that you'll find many on TV who buy audiophile equipment just to say they own the stuff. It's too expensive for that. They buy it for what they consider to be the purity of the sound. And it is pure. MP3's clip so many harmonics that classical orchestral music just doesn't sound right; but it's better in the car or plane than nothing at all.

But no, I'm not up for the sub-forum. It would remind me too much of when I used to hear things properly.

Benjie, I apologise that was not my intention. Music is like everything and different things appeal to different people, it doesnt make one thing crap and the other better, its just how the world goes around. It would be boring if we all thought exactly the same.

I am working with a couple of the mods and admin about doing a poll on the possibility of setting up a sub forum. Perhaps the subform could have several areas where the different types of audio gets discussed.

Maybe you could all help me with some ideas.

Obviously there are a few interested in:

hi-fi

Home theatre

portable equipment, ipods

music suppliers

download advice etc

locations that sell hi fi gear in bkk and outer areas

Theres many different subjects that could be discussed and even stuff to be Pined.

Theres no need to be at each others throats about it, its actually suppose to be about people who enjoy audio, discussing their systems, getting advice and enjoying it all.

We could even have a general threat of lounge where we could come in and slag off at each other, if that would keep you happy, but naturally you would have to stay within the guides of the Forum Rules.

Anyway POSITIVE suggestions are welcome and I will get to creating the poll.

You know, that was my sense of humour and most of the people that post here know that. It wasnt intended to be a snobbery thing but since you seem hel_l bent on trying to hi-jack this thread I am going to ask for it to be closed now.

Anyone with any ideas about a sub forum, please feel free to PM me and I will see what we can come up with.

Thanks to most of you, but not all for your imput.

A poll will be along shortly where we can discuss the pros and cons of a dedicated forum for audio / home theatre etc. So get your comments ready :)

Until the poll is ready, this thread is closed at the request of the OP.

EDIT For those eagerly awaiting the poll (and for those who aren't), here it is http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Audio-and-Qu...ai-t283796.html
