Hello,

I am a British national travelling to Thailand on 2 September. I then plan to travel around Asia for a few months before flying home to London from Delhi, India on 18 January 2010. I have booked all my flights including the return one from Delhi, so I have proof that I am leaving Asia.

However, I am confused. I have looked at Thai visas and have seen that you need to show the Thai authorities that you have an outbound air ticket from Thailand i.e. proof that you are leaving the country. I have been told by some people that I will therefore need to purchase an air ticket from Thailand to one of the other countries I intend to visit; whereas other people have told me that my plane ticket home from Delhi will be sufficient because it shows I will have to leave Thailand to get to Delhi.

Can someone please tell me who is right? Is my plane ticket home from Delhi good enough proof that I intend to leave Thailand?

Thank you, any help would be greatly appreciated. I have looked on numerous websites and they all seem to be telling me different things.

Many thanks,

Adele

If you obtain a Tourist Visa from an embassy or consulate (Cardiff is recommended) then you do not need an ongoing ticket.

HOWEVER

If you intend using a visa exemption (30 day stamp) then you must have an outbound ticket within 30 days of your arrival. Immigration are unlikely to check, but your airline will likely prevent you boarding your flight to Thailand as you don't meet the requirements.

If you don't have an onward flight within 30 days from Thailand get a visa!!

Do you have a Tourist Visa to enter Thailand? If you are relying on a 30 day Visa Exempt entry into Thailand, without a return ticket, then you could have a problem with the airline transporting you to Thailand. They may deny you boarding because you do not have a ticket out of Thailand within 30 days. Those are the rules!
