I currently have an Investment Visa, which I am very grateful for. The problem is that I have been offered a really interesting job with a large international corporation which I would also like to pursue.

How do I go about with the visa if I choose to apply for a work permit. Will that cancel my Investment visa and turn it into something else? I don't really have to work, so it is purely out of interest I will be taking on this job, but I want the legal matters correct.

I would hate to lose my Investment Visa, so if it is not possible to issue a work permit on that visa type, I will probably have to decline the job offer.

Thanks in advance

Whatever you do . Stay with your Investment Extension. (Not a Visa). I assume it is for an investment of 3.M Baht.

If you let it go you will not be able to go back to it in the future.

I do not see why you will not be able to apply for a work permit and keep your current Immigration Status.

Correct.

I am aware that I cannot return to the Investment Extension, but I had the impression that you needed a different visa to get a work permit. I may be all wrong, which is why I ask here.

The rules say you need a non-immigrant visa or extension of stay based on one. So you should in all likely hood be able to get a Work permit with your current extension of stay, without having to change the reason of stay.

The only known exceptions are the ED visa and the extension based on retirement.

Edit:

Note that the extension of stay for reasons of investment is back, but now you have to invest at lest 8 million, instead of 3. Old cases like yours can still only show 3 million.
