Airports of Thailand Plc is calling on state security agencies to draw up new measures to deal with problems at Suvarnabhumi airport including baggage theft and alleged extortion of tourists.

AoT president Serirat Prasutanond said the agencies were expected to come up with their proposals and submit them to AoT executives on Thursday.

Mr Serirat yesterday met representatives from the police, customs and King Power, the operator of the duty-free complex at the airport, to discuss the problems dogging Suvarnabhumi.

The meeting came on the heels of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's visit to the airport on Saturday to gather information first-hand on the troubles plaguing the airport.

Why they don't enlist the help of foreigners to help them I don't know. We are more likely to get things done than they are, and there are plenty of us with many different experiences, who could get things ship shape in that hole.

There'll be snow in Bangkok before that happens.

Isn't there an indoor snow ski and board rink in BKK yet?

If the AoT president has to call in security types to help with baggage problems, then I guess the pocketless uniforms thing didn't work out very well, eh.

At JFK airport, it's not all that rare for a whole container on an 18-wheeler to go 'missing.' But there must be other airports in the world who could send 'advisors' to assist the good people at AoT and associated groups in stopping the crap that occurs here. Of course, the procedures are the simplest part - getting rid of the culture at AoT will be very difficult indeed, imho.

How do you know? I've worked with teams of farang's who have advised AoT and various regulators who oversee it. Happens all the time on a whole range of issues.

They know exactly what is going on, but there is a lack of politcal will to stop it from happening.

But no foreigner is going to be able to stop dodgy practices going on. For that to happen someone is going to have to continually embarass AoT (like has been happening). They need constant bad PR.

So if you want 'foreigners' to really be effective, I suggest you and a bunch of like mined activists camp outside the arrivals area of the airport, with TV camera's which you upload onto the web daily, and circulating for all the world to see. That'll get their attention.

But like so many farang wannabe superheros....the don't move far from their bar seats.

Samran - if they employed the farangs, then they have to give them full power to get things done, if they want the tourists to come back, then show them that something has been done, and what better way of doing it than by using foreigners, from the UK, Denmark etc, where the bad press is coming from.

That is my opinion, and this is a website where people can voice their opinions.

And for your info - I do not frequent bars like most farang superheroes as you imply.

Samran, why don't you get off your high horse? I have not said that I am a farang wannabe superhero, and to be honest they should have more than enough able people to sort it they had the will to do so.

For the record, I actually know several Farangs that are involved in work at the airport.

Time to stop being so sensitive me thinks.
