The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon would not attend the proposed Asean-UN summit in October due to his busy schedule, Thai Foreign Ministry said Tuesday. The UN Chief could not leave the UN headquarter during the Asean summit to be held between October 23 and 25 since he has to attend the United Nations Day on October 24, said the ministry's Director of Asean Affairs Vitavas Srivihok.

The Asean-UN summit was postponed from April in Pattaya after red-shirted protesters disrupted the meeting.

Secretary Ban proposed the summit with Asean in September in New York when Asean leaders attended UN General Assembly but all leaders would not gather in the same time during that time, Vitavas said.

Hello, this meeting would only serve as a photo opportuntity so maybe the polititians can find a different venue. Do we know what this meeting would be about, or is it only talk for the newspapers and television? The world will not suffer from this cancellation, but the hotels and other busineses will not get as much money.
