I joined the Tops "Spots" rewards program sometime ago and never really managed my points. After accumulating 200 points, you can redeem them for a 20 baht cash voucher. As I understand, the point balance is zeroed every quarter with amounts under 200 transfered to the new quarter and balances over 200 automatically generating a cash voucher. (per the Tops web page)

Well sometime in July, after accumulating over 200 points, I presented my receipts to the counter at Tops Pattaya Klang and was informed "expire already." Ah, well, TIT so I went on my merry way.

This past week I noticed that I had once again accumulated over 200 points, so I went to the same Pattaya Klang tops and presented my receipts to a different clerk. He promptly issued my B20 cash voucher and I was on my way. I'm checking out the coffee - I really like the Duang Dee Hill Tribe Coffeee- and some one says , "Oh sir, you have more voucher from last time!" I look around and its the same clerk, anxiously presenting me a slip to sign for another voucher. I realized that it was the "expire already" voucher from last quarter so I thanked him and continued shopping. The guy exceeded my expectations and I really appreciated his honesty :D. I regret not getting his name or badge number so I could write a letter recognising his excellent service, so if any Tops management are reading this, you have a fine employee there :D

Funny ending though, I finished shopping and proudly presented my two cash vouchers to the check out girl who confirmed "20 baht right?" To which I replied "No 40 baht." She gave me a dirty look and pouted for the rest of the time it took to check me out :):D

There must be an epiodemic, only today I was returned 20 Baht by a cashier when I was paying for something and had handed over 2 X 20 Baht notes that were stuck together.

And last week in the Duty Free at Swampy (yes King Power) I was chased down by a cashier in order to refund me 80 Baht that he'd overcharged me by mistake.

I've had similar experiences. There are a hel_l of honest Thais in my opinion. And when you consider how poor some of these people are it only goes further.

it always beats me when I see the counter jumper girls at Central and Robinsons. Paid so little yet look so clean and neat.

You know if you think about it there are so many nice experiences like this we get here in Thailand. Sometimes it's the little things, the courtesies once commonplace back were ever we are from seem to be more prevalent here. From the simple honestly and service mentioned above to, my sweet's shop that delivers cakes and coffee in big mug to my friend's game shop down the street and dosn't bother about plastic or the money until I'm ready to come back and pay.

Her stuff is a lil more expensive then the rest but she treats us great and she gets allot of our business. You don't see this sort of personal touch in Starbucks or something.

Is this uncommon in Pattaya?

Everywhere I shop, I get this kind of treatment. I've had 7'11 clerks chasing me half a block to give me my 10 baht change or a food vendor remember I forgot my change several days ago. Happens all the time. Most Thais wouldn't dream of pocketing your money. Now for selling you something worthless or overcharging, that's another question.

I remember once two 7-11 girls running out of the shop frantically shouting "Pi Ka!" and my daughter cried "Drive daddy!" They only wanted to return my wallet which I'd stupidly left on the counter when I picked up my shopping bags.

Later when I asked my daughter why she'd shouted "Drive daddy!" she replied "I thought you'd stolen something."

My mistake for letting her watch "The Italian Job" with me the previous evening.

Pants on fire!

Seriously though it is the little things like that that make living here great. Went into my 7 -11 a month or so ago & the girl pulled my ATM card out from under the counter & gave it to me. The motor cy taxi guys had noticed I left it in the ATM the day before and handed it in.

And I hope they never lose the wai - it is truly gracious -

Thread of the day too :)

Thanks guys. Kids crack me up sometimes. I think my main concern was my daughter having no morals and wanting me to flee the scene rather than give myself up! I won't hijack the thread anymore apart from to say that when my grandmother died I was explaining it to my daughter and she looked up at me (she's 6) and asked in a deadly serious voice "Was she shot?"

Yes sweetheart. It wasn't old age. It was a a gangland execution of a 90 year old granny who used to work in a shoe factory and loved "Coronation Street". :)
