Police Recruitment

Has anybody any REAL knowledge of a recent Thai Language News item about irregularities in the selection process for the current Police Recruitment programme? I our District there are a couple of young Thai men who have applied for selection but it is rumoured that regardless of thier test scores, positions have already been bought! Said to be on Thai TV news!

The choice of word "irregularities" might be incorrect. Unfortunately it might be a REGULAR and NORMAL practice not only in recruitment, but "advancement" on the force. Certainly not the case in the Province I live, but perhaps in other provinces.

It´s not just the police force. It´s the same with the fire brigade and with any government work where you are in a position where you have power enough to enjoy the benefits of living in a corrupt society.

the fire brigade really ????? are you sure ...what power to firefighters have?? ive been a fire fighter for almost 10 years and have seen very few oportunities to exploit my posotion ( did i or didnt i ? )

unless you are very high up in the planning approval for new construction i doubt theres any financial gain to be made.

I think you guys are way off. I use to work with the police, and their is a police academy where I live, and no one pays that kind of money. Think about it, the starting salary is 6000 baht a month for a patrolman.

yes that is right, and 90k a month from bribes after he has paid his bosses.

Yes I´m sure. My wife´s cousin works as a firefighter. He had to pay to join the force. The fire trucks are many times engaged by shops or restaurants to pump water during the rainy season to prevent flooding. Naturally this comes with a special fee. I´ve even heard that if a fire occurs near your house or business you can pay a special fee and the fire brigade will sprinkle some extra water on your establishment to prevent the fire from spreading. Not to mention that with all government work comes a quite good retirement plan.

Further on no one joins the police for the good salary. It´s the bribes!

The figure should be Baht 300000.......!

Had a neighbor who was BB.......liked a drop of whiskey......Said one night during a session, that his family paid the money, so he could attend the police academy.......also said,want promotion......costs more.!!!!
