Thinking about taking a job in Rayong. Can someone tell me whether or not living and working there is bearable?

Thinking about taking a job in Rayong. Can someone tell me whether or not living and working there is bearable?

I live in BanChang, which is about 20km from Rayong. I don't teach or work in Thailand, but find the area to be ideal for my needs. It has good facilities including plenty of restaurants (obviously), nice beaches, good access to Koh Samet for weekend breaks, good shopping centers, golf courses and ranges and good climate and not too many ferang. There is also a small airport just outside Ban Chang which is handy. As well as this it is near enough to Pattaya for my western needs, such as book shops and some foodstuffs, but far enough away to avoid all the annoyance that comes with living to close. I guess it depends on your needs, age etc. I am 33, married with my own home and the area is ideal. For some Rayong might be to quiet.

Are there many schools in Rayong offering positions to westerners? I would like to try teaching one day.

I hope this helps.

hmmm. ban chang is actually where the job is. i can't recall the name of the school off the top of my head but it has the word 'garden' in it. is it easy to find decent accommodation there? are motorbike rentals cheap? is it possible to get hi-speed internet way out there? is there any nightlife at all (ie. one or two decent bars for age 25-35 or so, can be thai). thanks for your help!

Plenty or varied decent accomodation. Not sure about motor bike rentals. If your staying for a while why not buy a second hand one. I figure a second hand scooter must be around 30000 Baht. High speed internet is not available on my village, but we live a little outside Ban chang. The connection that I have is however very good and cheap. I think that in Ban Chang itself there might be a better chance of getting a high speed connection. There is one street in Ban Chang that has about a dozen small bars on it. I have never been in any of them and a few of them are girlie bars, but they might be ok. I think Rayong has a few larger Thai night clubs that I visited a few years ago. Rayong is about 20km from Ban Chang. Plus Pattaya is one big night club/ bar and is about 40km away if you fancy it.

Do not hesitate to contact me for more info. however I go to Libya for five weeks on Thursday and will not have internet access to reply.

Good luck.

The good thing about teaching in Rayong is that you'll find accomodation cheaper than nearby Pattaya.

There are goodish beaches there and it's convenient for the odd trip to Koh samet or shopping trip into Pattaya(1hr).

Rayong has a lot of industry going on but don't let that put you off, it's quite a pleasant, lively town - and there's a TESCOs.

There are a couple of schools in Bang Chang, both on the same soi.

If yoiu get a good lunch hour sometime, go to Kanary Appartments and have the buffet lunch for 195 baht - it's absolutely fabulous!

Hi, i know you posted this a while ago but just wondered if you went to Rayong? My husband has applied for a job there and was just wondering what you thought of it? If we do go i would also think about teaching there if possible
