I gather that he stole about $4000 USD - great entrance fee strategy for free Room'n' Board for 10 to 100 years - in the BKK Hilton.

Maybe Batman Bill Clinton needs another trip, to free this poor misguided prat - or....maybe Clyde should run for Governor of Alaska, but he's probably over-qualified.....

unreal.

paradise cost u know... :) idiot...

now when any farang(guava) walks into the bank, he'll be eyed... and the money will quickly dissappear... and nerves will fray... "I'm afraid of guava's"

Why did he just not rob a person walking into the bank in the morning... I am sure many of them bring inn a lot more than 146k... Rob them and you might even get away with it...

White person robbing a bank in Thailand, hard to find him in the line up huh??

It sounds likely, but not 'open and shut' case unless we get more proofs.

No money on him? hmmmm. Clothes in bushes nearby? another hmmmm.

About the main thing incriminating him is the fact that Thais are adept at spotting farang, even if one has a hood on. The added height, the hairy arms are give-aways.

He might do well to get a good lawyer. Too bad Johnny 'if da glove don't fit, you must acquit' Cochran passed away, tough luck.

On a humanitarian level, why didn't he check with some fellow farang to try and get a hand out? .....at least to return to the States. A down-and-out dude can panhandle at the exit of a shopping center parking lot, and make about $150 in a few hours.

A few things as reported in this story don't make any sense here...

--He had a gun, but the bank security guards and staff chased him and restrained him, until he pepper sprayed them??? Are you going to chase and restrain a guy with a gun???

--No mention of him having the cash on him. Yet the report makes it seem like he was captured soon after the heist...

--No mention if he was arrested in possession of a gun.

--No mention of what made the bank staff think this guy was the hooded, anonymous guy who robbed their bank...

American held after bank robbery

PATHUM THANI: -- An American man was yesterday apprehended following a bank robbery in Pathum Thani, in which he was implicated as the faceless lone robber.

Harold Guyier, 54, remains in custody of Pratoonam Chulalongkorn police after protesting his innocence. He has been charged with armed robbery, although police said they are still seeking further evidence.

Guyier was found not far from a Siam City Bank branch which had been robbed a short time before by a hooded person, thought to be a man. He told security guards and police he was merely "strolling around", even after police found a set of clothing worn by the lone robber discarded and hidden in a bush nearby.

According to police, the robber in a black hood entered the branch at noon, jumped over a counter to open a drawer and grabbed a stash of banknotes, totalling Bt148,600 and ran away. The robber said nothing during the five-minute heist.

No details are available about the robber's build and other distinctive details, but his clothing - a cream-coloured overall and a hat of the same colour, a black hood, a pair of sunglasses and a pair of black gloves, were all found abandoned in the bush.

Onlookers and the bank's security guards chased the robber and overpowered him in a struggle, before he shot pepper spray in their faces and made off.

Police said they were waiting for DNA-based test results to determine whether the clothing was worn by Guyier.

It doesn't seem like the police has any concrete evidence against this guy as yet. Just a dirty farang strolling around Future Park just after a bank robbery has taken place. For all I know, it could have been me!

As much as I detest invasion of privacy, perhaps it is time to start fingerprinting to keep out undesirables, and capture criminals that are already in country. It does seem to be becoming the place for shady individuals.

:)

I am a firm believer in giving a test to all who want to come to Thailand before they get on the plane, weed out the fools and misfits. This is no place to be without a brain.

Thailand has ALWAYS been a place for shady characters. They would have to deport many supposedly upstanding falang if they did background checks on all of us! :D

Some criminals are actually very bright people clinically, they just display anti-social and criminal behavior at odd times.

There are a lot of things unknown right now: what the motive was, if he had a criminal background, how he was identified, what happened to the gun & the money...........

Just the beginning of a developing story I assume.

Hmmm, they find him "near" the clothing. That sure is suspicious that in a crowded area he could be near stashed clothing. Am I the only one to notice that they didn't claim to find the money near him or on him? Sure seems suspicious.

An American is arrested Wednesday for robbing Siam City Bank Plc's Future Park Rangsit branch in Pathum Thani and run away with Bt146,000 Wednesday.

The man allegedly jumped over a counter, grabbed the sum and ran away.

He was later arrested.

Not too bright. I can think of better places to spend my remaining days than locked up in some Thai prison.

What to do otherwise, let them rob banks at home??They get out again way too early!

Same with drug-users: let them on an airplane and fly to Singapore. Saves a LOT of money if they take care of them(g).

OK, so let's say I was having a walk after work one evening in a park somewhere. All of a sudden, there are police all over me, and they found some clothes stashed in some bushes, presumably matching that of a bank robber. The bank staff are pretty sure it was a farang who did it, so since it must be me. And I was just "strolling around".

So what happened first? They arrested some random farang and then searched the area and found the clothes? Or did they find the clothes and then wait until they saw a farang to arrest? So there will be a DNA test made from the clothes. Anyone want to guess what the inevitable results of that will test be?

And like another poster said here, I like the part where the unarmed bank guards chased down an armed bandit and "overpowered him". I suppose he also didn't attract any attention from the guards as he walked into a bank dressed in overalls, a hat and black hood presumably covering his face, and gloves.

It's intentional.

The guy wanted to enter jail.

Another Yank caught doing a stupid Yank trick in the LOS. I recall the brouhaha a few years ago when John Mark Carr of the Jon Benet murder case fame pulled a bit of a fast one on the Thais and Americans for claiming guilt in that case. He was "teaching" youngsters in BKK at the time. I knew from the get-go that Carr was innocent in that case, but was soon to be on the hook for molestation charges in BKK. Carr probably figured he stood a much better chance in the US as the only hard case against him was for very old child porn charges (having pics, etc) in CA going back to the 90's. Sure enough, his DNA didn't match that found at the Jon Benet murder scene, had an alibi, and interest in him in that case foundered. But not until after he got an all-expenses paid Biz Class trip w/champagne back to the US; a much better fate than facing molestation charges in Thailand. He was definitely a pervert, but he sure pulled a fast one on both the US and Thai authorities.

As for this latest US stooge, US prisons are pretty full and the US' "credit card" is maxed out. I suggest he be deported to serve his time in North Korea. FYI -- I am US citizen.
