Although shopping there can be quite an experience, I would hate to get trapped inside if a fire broke out -- and the roof is supported by sticks! Ill take Tesco any day.
.....They are making huge margins by buying cheap and limiting their overhead (literally) with the bamboo and tin roof construction....

We called that one didn't we Phuketsub!!

Cheers :) ...and I thought that those comments were the ones that got the thread temporarily closed down, but apparently the roof collapse the following day got it re-started...Has anybody been in there since?

We love Supercheap! My (farrang) wife and I go once a month if we need to or not! Its entertainment on a grand scale... sure you have to know the value of things 'cause sometimes they're not the Supercheapest!!! Sure we've been in there in the worst monsoons and worried (apparently not unfounded) about the roof blowing off! But come on... a cubic meter of size 11 black wellingtons - no Thai labourers have size 11 feet!!! Sugary pastries a meter away from twinkle lights, pigs knuckles and prostate medicine, hydrochloric acid and hifis, rock hard Thai matresses and rocks for your garden... need I continue?

Been in today. Didn't notice any bits of roof missing...they must have used a few selftappers to screw it back on.

Kept well away from any onions!...I remember the woman getting killed a few years ago from a bite by a cobra lurking amongst them!

The Pharmacy is cheaper in there than most others round the island who charge you the price on the box. In Super Cheap it's the box price less 25%.

The place really should be on every tourists to-do list for entertainment value. Where else you going to see a driveshaft for a Toyota Vigo next to a woman barbecueing some pork balls next to tanks full of guppies @ 3 baht each next to chicken guts next to....

When we shop for food it's quality we seek, and you can get that in many markets around Phuket; we favour the one in Kata, besides macro,Carrefour etc,

We do not go shopping to have to suffer noxious smells, rats and cobras lurking ,

nor bits of roof flying around in a storm :)

1st time was the last time for me. Prices didn't seem to much cheaper then Tesco/BigC on most things. Definitely a lot of rank looking characters shopping or browsing there too. Grabbed a few things that caught my eye but ditched them once I saw how SuperLong the checkout lines were. Forget this place, its a dump.. :)

Really ... there a dozens of staffed check-outs scattered all over the store. That's one of the attractions of the place, efficient check-outs. Compared with the understaffed Tesco/Big C/Carrefor.

Yep I had no problem checking out. There are several check out areas. Only problem I did have was the guy on the door who checked some of my purchases against my receipt on the way out informed me that I qualified for a free gift and sent me to a counter where there was a bit of queue for the gifts so I just left without it.

I completely agree, tesco queues are irritating!

I do think its strange that people think the prices are similar to Tesco/Carrefour. In my experience its as if Tesco buy their products from Super cheap then add 30 percent to the price and stick them on their shelves. Im not sure having aircon whilst shoppng is worth paying an additional 20-30%.

Although Supercheap does stink...lol
