hello to everybody,

i plan to go to vientiane to get a double entry tourist visa.

i would like to get fews informations from whom already did this exprience and would like to know if it's possible?

1) if i take the air asia flight fd3360 landing at udon thani at 0805 am, would i have the time to arrive at the thai embassy of udon thani before the closing time? (i think i would have to be at the embassy before midday?)

2) if it's possible, what are the means to be sure to be at the embassy before closing?

3) i heard that we can have the visa the next day and can get it after 1pm. in this case, would i have time to go back to udon thani to catch the fd3365 air asia flight planned at 1740 (0540 pm) to bangkok?

4) if it's possible, what are the means to be sure to be at udon thani airport before closing time check in counter?

many thanks to everybody.

That's pushin' it for the few baht you might save.

Give yourself some leeway...

no just because have nothing to do during two days and want to go back asap.

you could answer me to take a time to visit vientiane, but it's not the purpose of my trip.

i'm not sure to save money because this approach involves to take taxis may be more expensive than a hotel night in vientiane... and if i really wanted to save my money, i would take a bus!

i don't spit on the fact to save money, for sure, but in this case, i just want to do it fast (and save money if i can). if i were rich, i would take thai airways and would go directly to vientiane (about 15.000 THB, expensive for me).

anyway, thanks for your opinion.

You could do it but to make it happen I suggest you get the Lao visa at the embassy in Bangkok. The problem you could run into is if there are a lot of people getting the Lao visa when get there.

Also don't plan on doing it on Monday or Thursday or you might not get a number if you get there late and there is a mob a the Thai consulate.

You can get the Lao visa while you wait if you pay an extra 200 baht. Embassy website has info. http://www.bkklaoembassy.com/#

What would seem to me to be the most efficient and hassle free use of your time would be to take the Nok Air 5:30PM flight to Udon Thani, spend the night at a modest hotel in Udon Thani, and then take n bus to Vientianne early the next morning. Guaranteed to be at the moring Thai Embassy Visa session. However, if the 8:05 arrival Air Asia Flight is on time, you could make it if all the Gods are smiling on you that day

If you are at the head of the 1pm pick-up line the next day, you should also be able to meet the 1740 flight back to BKK the next day without too much worry.

PS Your chances greatly improve regardless of 0805 flight Air Asia flight that morning or a night in Udon Thani if you have your PDR Lao visa (from PDR Lao Bangkok Embassy) ahead of time and do not apply at the bridge. While this can often take no more than 15 minutes at the Friendship Bridge, if a bunch of tour buses happen to arrive at the same time you could miss your Thai Embassy Vientiane morning session. (BTW PDR Lao Consul visa office also in Khon Kaen).

The border does not close until 10 PM so you can even go to Vientiane if you arrive in the evening. You have to be across the bridge before 10 because that is when the Lao visa office closes.

UJ -- Good Point. If you fly in around 1800, cross over the night before and spend the night in Vientiane. All my experience as regards Nong Khai (Immigration), Thai / Lao Border intricacies, and Vientiane Thai Embassy proper is via train from Khon Kaen.

A friend of mine tried to use the timetable that the OP proposed... Everything took was late & took longer than he anticipated, he had to stay an extra day after all.

It's theoretically possible to fly in and do it in one day, but everything will have to be exactly on time & nothing can go wrong. :)
