September 5, 200916 yr Embassy in Berlin = New age limit is now 55 years. I just passed renewal for 1 year because I am 56. Is that the general rule now?
September 5, 200916 yr No - it was the rule 10 years ago. There were two ages: 60 at a lower financial condition and 55 at a higher level. Could you please provide a link to your information. Edited September 5, 200916 yr by lopburi3
September 5, 200916 yr Thai embassy in Berlin: http://www.thaiembassy.de/ But where he got his information is unclear to me.
September 5, 200916 yr It is clearly false information. It is not unusual for some embassies to be behind the times, sometimes radically behind the times of changes. I noticed that it was years before the LA consulate website updated the age lowering from 55 to 50. If there is an actual age change in the future, I doubt the news will come from Berlin. The age is 50 for both the O-A retirement visa and extensions of stay based on retirement obtained in Thailand. The extensions are for one year at a time, so you reapply annually. You can stay for the rest of your life as long as you continue to meet the qualifications. You can exit the country with either single or multi-entry reentry permits that allow you to keep your current extensions to stay alive.
September 5, 200916 yr The age to apply for 12 monthly extensions for retirement is 50. You need 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank . OR 65,000 Baht a month income. OR a combination of the two. If you intend leaving the country you need a Re Entry Permit from Immigration. 3,800 Baht for a Multi and 1,000 for a single.
September 5, 200916 yr Thanks for your replies, and explaining it all quite well all is understood.cheers
September 5, 200916 yr Is there a limit of trips in and out on the multi re-entry? Thanks Unlimited, valid till your permission to stay ends.
September 5, 200916 yr If you get any hassle when applying at the local consulate, just ask for a single entry Non Imm O visa or even a single Tourist visa and we will walk you through the rest once you arrive in Thailand.
September 12, 200916 yr Hi, Is it legal to live in Thailand with a retirement visa but still do occasional work outside of the country (e.g. as a short-term consultant working in another country)? Would I be liable to pay tax in Thailand on money earned outside the country? Thanks. JB.

No there shouldn't be a tax issue with Thailand, even if there was, how would they know about this as it has nothing to do with Thailand?
