george Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Calendar jackpot The 'luckiest' date of the century rolls round tomorrow -- so what can we expect? So, what's all this fuss about the number 9? If you haven't noticed it yet, just check out all the events planned for tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow the calendar rolls round to the "luckiest" date of the century for Thais -- 9/9/09 -- and big businesses and top celebrities are rushing to grab their share of good fortune. Less lucky will be anyone in a hurry - the traffic is expected to jam as the auspicious activities hit their peak. Leaping forwards "Kao" means both "9" and "a step forward" in Thai, so "9-9-9" signals the most auspicious date for progress. This, in other words, is the day to start something new. Maternity wards around the country will be busy, with expectant mothers keen to see their babies born tomorrow, and newspapers are brimming with reports of new promotions being launched by businesses and celebrities releasing their latest creations. Tata's album launch Superstar Tata Young has chosen the runway at Don Muang Airport to launch her latest album, "Ready for Love", while TV host Kiet "Sumo Gig" Kitcharoen and his mother will open their restaurant, Glom Gig, at Ruamrudee soi 1. Elsewhere, popular actress Woranuch "Noon" Wongsawan will introduce The Peace condominium she and her friends have invested to customers. And movie company GTH has decided that 9/9/09 is a frighteningly good release date for their horror film "5 Praeng" ("Phobia 2"). Mobile-phone operator DTAC is getting in on the act by officially opening its new headquarters in Jamjuree Square, while Nation Multimedia Group's education arm, Nation International Edutainment - acronym NINE - is launching its CSR project, which will donate books to 999 schools and nine temples. Singha Corporation is also feeling lucky, preparing for tomorrow's opening of Singha Park, its new golf club in Khon Kaen. Celebrities tie the knot Celebrity weddings are also on the cards: comedian and TV host "Ple" Nakorn Silachai and actor San Panomkorn Tungtatsawat will be leading lucky girls down the aisle, while DJ "Ke" Pakamas Wungboon will be saying "I do" to "Kob" Thawatchai Sorathi, her husband-to-be from Look Thung Maha Nakorn FM 95. Special 9-9-9 promotions are being offered by Siam Square's Novotel Bangkok and all Marriott hotels in Thailand. The government is inviting everyone to sing the royal anthem at 9.09am in honour of His Majesty, King Rama IX. -- The Nation 2009-09-08
basjke Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 So may we expect Takky to try his luck on the luckiest date of the century?
bkkjames Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 It's too bad the Thai's don't use the Gregorian Calendar.
dre1247 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 It's too bad the Thai's don't use the Gregorian Calendar. Not necessarily, some Thais use all calenders they know about, you never know when you are lucky... The more calenders the more chances...

True, I really notice this when Chinese New Years rolls around.
Heng Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I have Jesus, Mary, Mohammed, and Kuan Im in my spirit house and trust me, it's ALWAYS heng-heng-party time at my place.
d0ndela Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Our office is next door to a Toyota dealer. They literally have a queue of car transports parked outside, and the new cars with the flowers on the hood/grill is rolling out like it was a gumball rally. This country must really like the number nine
bdenner Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 How can this be Thai related? The Thai calender tells me that the year is 2552. The Nation trying to tell us that the Thais will use anything that is convienient to predict luck!!! What rot.
dale8 Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Hello, I am happy that nothing bad happened in a big way as some groups of organized criminals like to put a special date on their evil doings. I do not know much about the luck of any date in time, but I hope all of us are lucky in our own ways. Cheers.
